Bryan Huffman – 45

To celebrate Bryan Huffman’s 45th birthday, Bryan worked on and documented some trick ideas he has had in his head for a while, and included trick names to boot. Especially liked the final

On October 1st, I decided to work on some trick ideas that have been in my head for a while until my 45th birthday on October 31st. Not the most difficult combos or tricks, just little ideas that have been in my head for awhile. Especially liked the no handed pumping junkyard at 3:36, and the back peg jump direct to gliding gerator at $:02, a trick Bryan calls the “Stripper Love Jump”. Awesome! Happy Birthday Bryan!

  1. That was Awesome !
A lot of original tricks and original trick names.
Riders should name tricks more often these days.
    It is better for Flatland.
It will allow show announcers, and contests announcers alike to describe
Flatland better so that spectators and riders can understand what trick is what.
Otherwise it is all anonymous spinning and rolling without a description which
can come across as bland and easily forgettable.
People will not forget names like “Stripper Love Jump”.
You create a trick. You name it. Should be a flatland law.
This should go for all edits as well. Put the original names of your original trick,
and / or switch on your edits like Bryan has done.
It will bring back a lot of the character and inspiration that flatland had in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and seems void of these days.
    Your thoughts Effraim ?

    • @obscure – I think it makes sense in terms of how personal flatland riding is. Spectator wise like what you are saying for announcers I think it will always be confusing, but can be broken down, two footed rolling trick, scuffing, explain what it is and that in itself can help, whenever I have announced I try to explain a little bit without going to deep as whats going on. I grew up on reading the pages of Freestylin’ and BMX plus (as did Bryan) and love all their trick names as most people know, so I’m def in favour 🙂

    • I was also psyched that he included the names of all his tricks. I think doing that in edits is really really important and I am happy to see it starting back up this year.

The other thing I found to be really cool about the trick names is a text I got from Todd Carter when he and Bryan were at AFA Houston. Todd asked Bryan if he likes the name of a certain trick that someone else invented and Bryan replied “I ain’t got time to name tricks.” Now I realize that may have been creative dis-information that was intended to make its way across Flatlandia as setup for his use of trick name titles in this production.

  2. Glad you enjoyed it! I have to give some credit to Kevin W and Justin Oh for inspiration on the Stripper Love jump name….

  3. I don’t know whats better ,the name of your tricks,or your Urple Shoes..
in all seriosness,I hope I can still throw down new tricks at your age, happy birthday HUFFMAN!!!!!
