Whilst BSD is not a flatland brand so to speak, James White and Amos Burke have been using this frames and products for a good while now. Yesterday, BSD launched “the Revolution Hub” and this certainly looks like it would work well for flatland. Official word below…
Introducing the new BSD Revolution hub…
A freecoaster hub that feels like a cassette hub, weighs the same as a cassette hub, has a pedal gap like a cassette hub and sounds like a cassette hub. Using the Planetary clutch system.
• 30% lighter than conventional freecoaster hubs.
• No gap when pedalling forward.
• Eradicates unwanted engagement on rollbacks.
• Feels and sounds like a cassette hub.
• No need for oversized hub bearings due to low axial load.
• Supertough hollow male 14mm chromo axle.
• BSD hubguards included.
I posted this promo for the new Heresy Zephyr tyre a few days ago on instagram, I am hearing lots of great things about this product. And Sebastian Grubinger throws down a heavy back wheel line for this, with Sevisual on the editing, you will not want to miss.
Rider and film-maker Mark Locke (the guy behind the A Bike For Che film) has a started a little flat merch brand called FlatBastard, which made us smile a lot.
Mark: ‘It started out as a bit of a joke, but then when I thought more about it I realised it sums it up perfectly: the bastard sons and daughters of BMX, kind of illegitimate and somehow less worthy. But the irony is that even the simplest flat takes so much hard work and perseverance. Usually alone in a car park, hence the ‘BMX Billy Nomates’ slogan with the first tee. The slogan’s obviously a bit tongue in cheek too as we’re perceived that way but there’s actually this amazing network of support. We’re a tribe of Bastards, of all levels, from novice to killing it, dotted all over the globe.’
For now it’s just tees and stickers but other tee designs are planned and possibly also beanies, socks and hoods. All tees are screen printed and then heat pressed for smoothness onto 100% cotton shirts.
Like flatland it’s small, but perfectly formed, and all about the details.

Dub gives a great first impression on the new Heresy Zephyr Tyre that comes in 1.9 tyre size and offers a comparison to the popular Ares A Class 1.9 Tyre. Interesting to watch this and hear Dub’s experience on what he looks for in a tyre and his feedback.
Something a little different than I normally post, and I’m digging the Independent DIY feel this gave me. Dub is out there making it happen over at IGI, and here he runs through what parts he has in stock as well as some great detail into each product he is stocking. Check this one out when you have a spare 15 minutes of your day.
This product is a tool that helps you to learn all Hitchhiker based tricks A LOT easier and faster. It can be a very basic Hitchhiker to more complex opposite Cross footed Hitchhikers and many other tricks.
This product has been tested by several riders and the results have been remarkable: The learning time of Cross Footed Hitchhikers have been ridiculously short!! For that reason this product is called Timesaver Barends!
As you can imagine, making our own tire is a dream come true and today we are so happy to present you the ZEPHYR.
Our design process started from a « blank page » with two questions : what tire would we like to ride considering the wide spectrum of preferences among the team, and what tire would contribute to BMX flatland in general as an « open » progressive tire created for any style of riding and any surface. A fast, modern tire with a slick feeling as you roll, yet foot friendly and without any real break-in time as no one likes to waste even just one session on adapting to a new tire. On top of that, even though we were aiming at high quality, it was essential for us to keep it affordable.
Needless to say, that didn’t sound easy at all. But it also felt like the most meaningful way to design this tire, so research was on…
The answer to that equation was found in a balanced combination of a hard compound slick and low profile with a multiple lines pattern for precise foot control. Floor contact feels direct and natural, easy to figure out. Same with foot contact, there is no surprise. The tire doesn’t feel like it’s interfering with what you want to do, instead you forget it’s there.
But enough of these big words. We love the ZEPHYR and hope you will too.
The ZEPHYR will first be available in 1.90’’ size, black, by the end of August, both in wire bead and kevlar versions, at a reasonable price we would ourselves be willing to pay…
1.75’’ will be next.
Last night Heresy dropped a big teaser, HY are about to enter the tyre market. This is really exciting and a brave move! The Sevisual produced teaser, doesn’t give too much away, thats what teasers do right? More details soon….
Plenty of positive news at the moment, Martti Kuoppa just launched his own parts brand under the Master of Creativity label, with a view to giving back to the progression of flatland! So far, he has his signature 33/45mm stem, pegs, and bars that come in 8,5″, 9″, 9,5″, 10″ sizes. Head over to the MOC site, link below.
Whilst I was out in San Francisco staying with Pete Brandt in January. Pete was talking about the demand for a short reach stem in flatland, Pete has had a batch of 26mm stems made under the “Equation” label, made by Chris Rothe, Karl Rothe’s brother no less. Nor Cal represent, more products to follow? Hit up Pete on instagram, @pbflatland, he is taking pre orders right now.
So dope to see this come to life….
