Something a little bit different from the form and very thought provoking. Pat Fisher just released the “Foundations of Style” series on podcast is beginning today, starting with the re-publishing of “Issue #1 – Attack of the Clones”. A new issue will be released each sunday for the next month, with a total of five podcasts in all.

  1. A very interesting listen. I’m glad how he mentioned that the mid-school era needs to be respected, and that point is totally valid. There was never a time in bmx where there was so much innovation by the riders, with little to no funding from what few sponsors remained after the late 80/early 90s shakeout of bmx.

  2. As far as flat goes, I’ve generally felt that the popularity of brakeless riding contributed to the “clone” situation to a degree. Back in the day, you’d never know what you were going to see when a new vhs or dvd release dropped because the featured riders were all so unique from one another, but now, you can bet you’ll see a steam to crackpacker (or tomahawk jump) line or a backwheel line with several time machine variations in it in almost every edit. This isn’t a shot at riders nowadays at all since I love everything going on in flat, but it is an unavoidable observation that can be made. I find myself getting legitimately hyped to see creative edits with brakes and scuffing nowadays because I feel like they break the monotony up after a while.
