In life, I always hear people say “be yourself”, “dare to be different”. Rob Ridge was ridiculed for years by the BMX fashion police, and now he’s become I would say a BMX cultural icon. He’s loved across the board. It is interesting how things like this develop over time.
I have known Rob for years, and I am sure I must say the same thing this with every post. You can see his flatland skills shine bright throughout his latest masterpiece. No one cares about about his bike set up, the use of the locking lever, and so on. It’s all about what Rob is doing on the bike, there are so many NBD’s in this I will just leave this one for the comments section. What’s your favourite move?
I will say this though, Rob is probably the most technical lip trick rider on the planet right now! And this comes from his highly skilled flatland background….
Straight up Awesome!
Fact: Riding flatland will make you better at riding your bike on other objects.
This is so bmx it hurts. Pure radness.
love the elbow glide nosestall!
A Lawnmower into an Undertaker? Decade to Pedal Picker back into a Decade? Undertaker on the spine? Just sick, sick riding!
Sure Rob doesn’t care what anyone said about his Flatland in park, & why should he or anyone. Great he kept this up & it brings up Bob Khol doing the forward bar ride on Ron Wilkersons enchanted ramp, Wilkerson himself, doing the pedal picker & Miami Hopper drop ins, Dmc’s nose wheelies, Moliterno’s G-turns on mini ramps. Ain’t it funny how it’s kept goin & the ignorant people gave crap to some. This is great viewing. Thanks E and Rob.
Undertaker flyout and elbow glide stalls. Amazed by the creativity AND the skill to pull it off.
Brake lip tricks will never get old. So rad!!!
That was a fun watch. Did anyone else notice it looks like rob has a double brake cable to his front brake? A double cable to the gyro makes sense but I’m curious what’s doin on the front brake. The only think I could think of was he’s doing something similar to the KGB space brake with individual cables running to each arm but I there isn’t enough detail in the video to make a determination.
@Jerky – Yeah I thought that was interesting too. I thought it might be the both levers work both brakes thing but it looks like he has his front brake setup like double fronts but to only one lever. I’m guessing that he was maybe snapping cables up near the lever, but I have absolutely no shit of an idea whatsoever. It’s just so fun to speculate. Like gambling, but without losing any money.
@Paul Chamberlain — Thanks for making me feel a bit better about myself. I was afraid I’d be the only weirdo to notice such arcane details in spite of such a dope edit. Maybe it’s time Mr. Ridge submits to a more current bike check to indulge the curious since there is a precedent on such things https://bmxisrad.tumblr.com/post/515584500/an-old-rob-ridge-bikecheck-free-coastercom
