Old School Sundays – AFA Masters Ohio 1988 / R.I.P Park Carter

This week the sad news, Park Carter had passed away broke all over social media. Park was way ahead of the time during the 80’s with his riding, and what he brought to the table. I hit up Todd Carter for any Park Carter to do a dedication to the man, and he came back with this absolute gem from the archives, that features an amazing run from Park Carter at the 18:31 mark, and also so much other good footage to boot from the likes of Danny Meng, Ruben Castillo, Bill Neumann, and many many more. Go watch that run from Park, amazing!

Throwback Thursdays – Aggro Culture The Video

Last night I came across this gem from the archives after a post from Brett Downs on social media caught my attention and I am so glad I sat down to watch this one.
This video highlights the best in BMX Freestyle from 1988 – 1991. Including flatland, ramps and dirt, this video has it all. Appearances by: Mat Hoffman (900 Air), Dennis McCoy and especially the double backwards whiplash to funky chicken I have wanted to see for years at the 23:24 mark!), Josh White, Dino DeLuca, Perry Mervar, Rick Moliterno, Bill Neumann, Joe Gruttola, Danny Meng, Bill Nitschke, Steve Swope, Rick Thorne, Leo Chen, Pete Brandt, Brett Foster, Joe Johnson and the Team Hip Tricks crew.

Catching Up with Todd Carter

I’m really enjoying doing these “Catching Up” interviews and today I interview Todd Carter, one of the smoothest riders in the flatland game and a man that doesn’t get enough credit in the flatland scene. Lot of history with Todd’s longevity in the sport. It was great to interview Todd and hear his story, grab a cuppa and enjoy this episode:

00:56: How long has Todd been riding for, and how did he get into flatland?

3:13: What was Todd’s first flatland competition?

4:38: I never knew that myself and Todd both rode for Hutch, and the Ohio scene shaping Todd’s riding.

8:00: What are some of Todd’s favourite memories from the AFA Masters?

10:29: How flatland is good for physical and emotional health, and forget about life issues?

11:54: What can modern day flatland learn from era such as the AFA masters where there 130 people in Todd’s class?

14:20: Moving from Ohio to Los Angeles and living the Californian dream.

17:45: Moving back to Ohio and building a flatland spot.

21:40: Coming from that era where what music you rode to was a big deal. What music is Todd into?

23:42: Bringing the American Flatland Association back.

26:00: Having two kids that both ride flatland.

29:36: The transition from expert rider to professional.

32:35: Plans for 2018?

33:21: Being a good rolemodel for the flatland scene, and what device would he give to the future generations?

35:47: Any final thanks?

Old School Sundays – Hardcore Radness 2

For this weeks OSS we go back to a great video from the Hickman brothers, “Hardcore radness 2”, thanks to Kurt Schmidt for uploading a segment of this featuring some great footage from the Make A Wish contest in Virginia with the likes of Pete Brandt in his O-zone days, Ross Smith, Josh Marsele, Tyson Godfrey, Danny Meng, and many more. I feel like this contest and period of time bridged the gap between old/mid school.

Make A Wish Foundation Contest 1989

Another day, another great upload from the archives from khelagger. Today we have some run footage from the Make A Wish Foundation Contest 1989 with Pete Brandt, Danny Meng, Chris Poulos, Ross Smith, Dennis McCoy, and Josh Marsele. Great upload, thank you khelagger whoever you are!
