The Freestyle Now crew (Shaun Jarvis, Dez Maarsen, and Paul Chamberlain right at the end) were recently at the annual Flatark contest in Kobe, Japan. Here’s a little behind the scenes, with some practise footage from Shaun, Dez and some Kobe locals.
Congratulations to Dominik Nekolny who yesterday took the win at the annual Dalmation Warriors contest in Baska Voda Center, Croatia. Dom was followed on the podium by Chris Bohm and Dez Maarsen, congratulations also to Chris and Dez!
The sunshine came out for finals day, and boy was it a scorcher here at the Ruhr Games, in Dortmund, Germany. Pro finals was scheduled for 2pm and the finalists cooked up a treat for us all and the awesome German crowd that was packed out for the finals.
This week I’ve been randomly checking through old Flat Web Tv episodes, when I got to the 2012 Red Bull Circle of Balance Post Game Show I knew my TBT was dialled for this week! The FlatWebTV crew recap the event and get some inside perspective from guys who were actually there like: (myself) Effraim Catlow, Scott O’Brien, Moto Sasaki, Dez Maarsen, Jean-William Prevost, Michael Steingraber, Kerry Gatt and the eventual champion, Viki Gomez.
It’s new years eve 2016, today it is time to lookback over what happened in the month of June. Which turned out to be a pivotal moment in the contest season.
July begun with a trip out to the annual BMX Cologne contest, Viki Gomez took the top spot followed by Alex Jumelin and Matthias Dandois. Watch Viki’s run below!
The clocks go forward one hour, that feel good factor that the extra daylight brings, more riding time equals more time filming and documenting what you do. April was a busy month!
Deco’s Chad Degroot kicked off the month and had this to say:
“Since I starting riding my head wants me to learn as much as possible and this includes bars backwards tricks. The beginning of this link I learned this day so to make more smooth flow and no scuffing. The middle has been a gem and great feeling to whip the backend around with no brakes and keep speed. The end is bars backwards and played a huge head game for a bit because I had to push so much momentum to get into the backyard position and pump to keep speed. Real excited to move past the 15 second persona and get onto the longer story of this trick.”
Nice highlights edit from the Final Round of the European Flatland League at the King of Paris at the Bercy Skatepark a few weekends ago. Featuring: Matthias Dandois, Alex Jumelin, Dominik Nekolny, Thomas Noyer, Dez Maarsen, Sebastian Grubinger, Jean Bulhon, and Raphael Chiquet.
Peep this fast paced edit that captures the vibe well from last weekend’s King of Paris contest that Laurent Genteuil just dropped for the Nomadeshop in Paris featuring Alex Jumelin, Matthias Dandois, Dominik Nekolny, Raphael Chiquet, Dez Maarsen and many more.

Like everyone when the iBMXff World Championships were announced a few months back, I thought “Where the hell is Flatland?”, there were various trains of thoughts from most of the flatland community, but it seemed summed up with “it’s not the worlds without flatland”, emails went back and forth. If I am being honest, I didn’t think Flatland would be included with budgets and all….
Takahiro Ikeda, Xft no handed straddle time machine on his way to a huge second place.
Peep the official edit from the NASS organisers, here is the iBMXff World Championships from last weekend in Shepton Mallet. Even though you can’t tell from the edit, the wind was ridiculous! In a nice touch to finish the edit, Dennis McCoy was the last rider to win the Worlds in the UK, and he presented the title to Matthias Dandois!
