Flat Snitches: Episode 4 / 360 Bike flip with Steve Mulder

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since Episode 3 of Flat Snitches with Tim Treacy discussing the Backyard, so it’s time to get back to it, and take a little break from the regular FM exclusive clips (we return to the exclusive clips on Wednesday)…
Myself and Pete Brandt have been talking about switching over to video for Flat Snitches to document, and show visuals of the trick creations and provide some historical context also. Editors note: Steve is camera shy, so enjoy the video and the written interview…

For episode 4, we go back to the 90’s.
And a 360 bike flip move that begins in a peg wheelie, throw the bike 360 degrees and land in a switch-b, aka switch foot caboose! It’s time to show its creator, Steve Mulder some much deserved respect!

The concept of the bike flip has become trendy as of the last few years, but the 360 version has not. Myself and Pete discuss a few heads that have stepped into the arena, but as we delved a bit deeper, it came to our attention the straight line version is untouched. Mad respect to Steve for this timeless creation!

We catch up with the man himself to discuss this amazing move, and dig into some of the background information on it. Enjoy the episode and interview, it’s time to learn more about this amazing creation and give props to one of the best riders to ever do this artform we call flatland….

Repo: The 2019 One Love Jam

The 9th annual One Love Jam in Newport Beach, California was lived up to all the hype I have heard over the years. We were staying around an hour away in Corona, and I believe it was James McGraw who said “it will be sunny at the beach Effraim”. I remember thinking “yeah yeah, that’s not going to happen”, low and beyond we arrive at picture perfect Newport Beach and the sunshine is booming, girls in bikinis everywhere, hockey players, and a fast smooth newly resurfaced riding spot which is large enough to hold 120 riders pretty comfortably with a California beach backdrop.

San Francisco Trip – Part 2

Yesterday was the first dry day of my trip to San Francisco. Dylan Worsley from We Bicycles arrived in the morning, and myself, Pete and Dylan headed from Fremont to San Fran by BART. 40 minutes later, we were at Embarcadero and the Clocktower is across the road. The ground was still really wet from and early morning shower, Pete has the Clocktower on lock down and has a let blower, squeechie, and to my suggestion added a towel to the fix to get the riding spot dry.

If you were paying attention to the site last sunday, you will have noticed the Old School Sundays special with Nor Cal flatland legend, Pete Brandt! Back in that 89/90 O-zone period, Pete had one of the most interesting bike set ups with personal modifications. Any modifications on your ride Pete?
Yes, O ring in bottom bracket, cut down drop outs on forks, moded out brake set up to keep it low profile, grinded the edge of the pegs to make them round, silicon in the bars to prevent rust and reduces cracks on the inside of the bars.

Anything specific to you that you must have on your own ride:
Tennis racket tape, 16t sprocket, Ares tires, and everything else!! haha

Advice for beginners with their set ups?
My advice is to get a basic set up and find out what direction you want to go. You don’t want to go out and buy and expensive bike right off because there are a lot of options for different kinds of styles.
