Throwback Thursdays: KGB Impulsivity 2008

As we approach our 12th anniversary, let’s go back twelve years and to a video many consider the best ever done. The KGB Impulsivity featuring Martti Kuoppa, Viki Gomez and Pete Brandt, and produced by Intrikat ticks all the boxes. It’s time to watch this back, and take in the madness all over again.

This made me think did we really progress in riding, perhaps in style and flow yes. But tricks? And in this video, all the riders using brakes. Let me know your thoughts, perhaps this is a good article topic for the future?

Flat Snitches: Episode 5 / The Crackpacker with Pete Brandt

YO!!!

Flat Snitches is back!
During the lockdown, plenty of time to kill and come up with ideas. Using Zoom started to become a weekly occurrence in work, and daily life, so why not use it for Flatmattersonline!
The subject of episode 5 features my co-host for Flat Snitches, Pete Brandt and the Crackpacker.
Chad Johnston, of Intrikat fame was the first to document Pete’s riding for us all worldwide, it only made sense to get in contact with Chad and include him in this episode.
Chad drops some amazing historical knowledge, and Aaron Frost joins in the episode too. We had a lot of fun on this call, the line dropped out a few times so apologises for that. You can check the time stamps on the video to skip to the parts you are interested in!

And remember kids, it’s a crackpacker not a wheelchair! Grab a cuppa and get educated.
Big thanks to Pete, Chad and Aaron for this episode!

The Flatmattersonline Chad Johnston Interview

Today I am stoked to publish this much deserved interview with the man behind Intrikat, Chad Johnston. Chad is a flatland lifer, and has contributed so much towards our artform over the years, he has helped many riders careers via video parts and getting their names out to us all, not to mention inventing and documenting so many tricks that have inspired us all across the globe. If that’s not enough, Chad also designed a signature line of products/frame with S&M. Despite all this, I feel the man is underrated, and I wanted to show the man some love and thank him for all he has done for me over the years. Grab a cuppa, this is a long interview that deserves your attention. Let’s get into this!

How long in the game Chad, how did you get into flatland? It’s crazy to me, I remember sending you money through the mail years ago for Reality Tv Part 1 and here we are 2018 doing this interview.
Haha! We’ve been in it a minute. I got my first BMX for my 10th birthday. Prior to that I was riding a hand-me-down stingray type of bike. I don’t remember how I got it, or when. I do remember my dad teaching me how to ride it without training wheels. As soon as I figured it out, it started raining, but I didn’t care, I kept on going.

Throwback Thursdays with Simon O’Brien

Pure coincidence that the last two throwbacks have both been Intrikat videos, but what the hell! And why the hell not, Simon O’Brien is an amazing rider with one of the biggest bag of tricks in the game. Take this 2002 Intrikat Landescape A part is small example. There’s not too many riders messing around with backwards xft halfpackers and the blender line at 1:45 where Simon et’s the pedals round to switch into xft caboose on pedal is still amazing to this day! Well worth a re-watch or if you haven’t seen it, a real treat!
