Lookback: August – The 2016 Flatmattersonline Year End Awards

August is often the busiest month of the year on the site, and it certainly got started with a bang on August 1st! The man of the moment, Viki Gomez fresh back from the 2016 World Circuit title in Brazil goes back to the core day to day sessions at his home spot in Luxembourg and just like the CORE Part 1, this delivers at the highest level!

Highlights for me:
– The opening rolling dump truck pivot backwards xft ice cream pivot opposite side two footed dump truck pivot xft ice cream line is just beautiful and took me back to the riding of Dan Rigby, amazing!
– X bar steam kickflip regular bar halfpacker pivot opposite xft hitch xft halfhiker body varial to halfpacker at 00:39!
– I know it’s not new, but the hang ten pressure jump steam Viki does at 1:03 is timeless, execution is also on point!
– Backwards crackpacker in circles carved back to forwards crackpacker steam kick flip crackpacker, the technicality and sheer variety of moves Viki has is just incredible! This is years and years of crafting to get to this level, I could go on and on, but I’ll leave it here.

Jeff Scheer – One Fall Day + Two Spring Days

Heres the word from Jeff on this edit: especially love the boomerang combo at 00:24.

“One Fall Day + Two Spring Days, about an hour session each day. The six clips from the Fall of 2012 that begin the video were from my 40th Birthday in late October! I didn’t ride much through the winter, so I’m excited to already be working on a few new things early in the season.
Also wanted to create an edit that every clip was brakeless.”

This is awesome! Jeff breaks it down for you…

“With my 40th B-day a week away, I wanted to make a last edit for my thirties. I created a thirty clip edit without any video effects or extra non riding scenes. Just a fast paced, clip after clip style, of some of my tricks of 2012. Heavy on brakeless decades, since one of the decades in my life is coming to an end. In order to fit the 30 clips into a reasonable length, I used many shorter tricks, and didn’t use really long combos.
This year I rode brakeless quite a bit, although some clips I do have a front brake only. All the decade / Smith decade stuff, boomerangs, and pinkie squeaks are brakeless. Some of the tricks I came up with myself and have never seen anyone do. The no kick double turbined one handed steam at 4:50 is my invention, along with the original combo at 2:45 and a few other things I’ve never seen done before…”
