Scott Powell – Basics of Flatland

Photo: Cody York

During the winter Scott Powell was asked “what are the first 10 trick you should learn riding flatland…
I came up with 11 of them. We did a photo shoot and a brief description of each trick.” If you are a beginner reading flatmatters, hit the link for the juice on the ESPN site. Good stuff!

  1. Nice , but it a Gerator not Lardyard and that’s a Forward’s Karl Kruiser rolling a Karl Kruiser is scuffing backwards , as not to confuse any new comers ,thanks.

  2. personally i believe the whiplash is one of the most important tricks. so many tricks are done within that trick.especially turbine ,cross and multiple whip variations.

  3. Lardyard, gerator, dick, whatever. I only want to see a conversation with Howard and Scott Powell talking trick names live with boxing gloves.

  4. If that’s a forward Karl Kruizer, what’s a Dave Duster? Karl Rothe was great, but poor Dave Fox never gets his due credit.

  5. Dave Duster is forwards Karl Kruiser yep the same trick and Morgan think you’ve missed the point here , i’ve boxed for 22 years no competition lol

  6. Morgan who’s the dick ? stay with the Ukelele tunes my friend , i was actually making a constuctive comment, George Formby wannabe lol

  7. Wasn’t expecting him to say decades… They’re pretty useful if you want to do. . . decades. . .

I’d say whiplash for sure because it’s the trick that really gets you onto that other foot rolling for the first time.

The other tricks I agree with.

All flatland tricks have stupid names, but the older the trick the more stupid the name I’ve found.
