  1. big props to Alexis to pull all those hard tricks in such a small area for his ride style !!! the live feed was great, make me feel like i was there!!

  2. So there are 3 winners , thought it was a straight forward comp.
well done to the 3 , gotta love Alexis lets have an Aoooooost.

  3. All comps should be judged like this or in simular catogrees, it should be standard. It’s the most progressive way to push flatland in a competition environment.

Judge on what a rider does in his run NOT what he doesn’t do.
This will push innovative hard tricks and not the mundane safe shit we see time and time again.

For too long contests have held flatland back, I urge all event organisers to adopt creative judging formats like the Rebel jam.

  4. So Jesse is the overall winner???

You can’t judge based on style. What does it even mean. Consistency? Smoothness? I like Mike S’ style, so the rider who most closely rides like him will be the winner in that area if I’m judging.

The hard trick category is great, it really pushes things.

I think a better category than ‘style’ would be ‘variety’.

  5. I agree too Paul “style” catogree is a bit odd and perhaps consistency or overall run would be better suited, but I really like the concept of the divided area judging.

  6. The “style” category is the most subjective out of the three, that’s for sure! Myself, I regard a rider who makes his tricks look effortless as stylish. This is a category that will always be debatable, but that’s how it’s done at Vans Rebel Jam! Just accept it! I love Flatland being part of Rebel Jam!

And by the way, thanks a lot Paul! I’m quite flattered!

  7. last year at the Dutch Rebel jam the Creativity category was the most vague and caused the most issues with inner conflicts let alone what the other judges thought, where as this year we had a good talk and even tried to explain to the riders that its wasn’t a conventional “Run” as such and riders such as Alexis embraced this and had his chance o lay down and shine 🙂

Style was the harder of the 3 this time as its very subjective as where as Mike version is making stuff look effortlessly. one of my favorite styles is Martti K fighting for control sketchy style (circa green quamen).

with discussions with Frank regarding “creativity” category the word “variety” came up but it should be judged within there own OG bag of tricks, as a rider could be tactful and do a calculated balance of front, back, rolling , spinning etc

alot was learnt from the mistakes from last year, and more again this year, it will never be perfect but this system is great in its potential to celebrate upto 9 different top 3 riders 🙂

  8. I think if each of the criteria has an explanation and judges discuss the criteria before the contest it’s a great system. So many riders get a chance to shine.

The only problem I can see now is that there is a beach and ocean and it’s very hot for riding. . .

I’d like to go next year!!! We’ll see what happens. . .
