March 27 1999 , 3.20-ish p.m. in A.T.X. @ the Intellect skatepark BMX contest… that I was competing/ riding in……the day I met Art and have been a HUGE fan of his riding AND him as an individual. This cat is literally one of the TOP riders in the U.S. BMX Flatland contest scene AND in the U.S., representing progressive BMX Flatland ! Art has ALWAYS . ALWAYS been ” in the now ” as far as the sport’s unforgiving/ relentless …..and CONSTANT trick / line progression. Even creating his OWN stuff since 1996. I.E. , him FLYING past me after I was done riding for the day in a crack packer , step to half packer line @ the E.S.P.N. BMX X-Trials contest in South Padre T.X. , spring break weekend . I didn’t know him yet but was like ….” THAT cat is riding in the EXPERT class ??! THAT’S a PRO level line he just flew by me doing ! ” Art’s riding is and has always been SO damn smooth / effortless , no matter how HARD the stuff he’s doing ( and he’s ALWAYS done HARD tricks/ lines. ) that I personally think that he makes look TOO easy…. when it’s FAR from it , haha…..It’s just not in his D.N.A. to ride sketchy , haha. I remember back in January 2007 I asked/ pleaded with him to film/ mail me a D.V.D. of his newest / hardest lines. He did and I was in AWE of the lines he does during a ” casual ” riding session , straight after work ….TRAINING ASTRONAUNTS @ N.A.S.A. ( he’s literally a GENIUOS . ) he was doing all these crazy cliffhanger lines saying that they were NOT hard… and that they were like ” riding on a roller coaster ” , haha….at the time AND to this day NO ONE does , links or flows through ANY type of cliffhanger variation , line….turbine/ spinning as EFFORTLESS as Art does. He’s a ACE on the BACK wheel , also. A TRICKTIONARY that has a wild amount of ” pages ” on end. He’s also super humble , cool . I’ve talked with him on the phone for hours , stayed @ his casa after BMX contests in H.T.X. , gotten encouragement from him on my own1995, 1997 , 1998 long combo style of bike riding , haha……Art is a cool cat and AMAZING BMX Flatlander , TIMES 7. You can look up his Hoffman Bikes 2004 VIDEO PART online and see that he’s a heavy contender in the sport and has ALWAYS been……….and will ALWAYS be. Thank you , Duke and Big-E !
