King of Concrete – 3/5th August

The King of Concrete is just a few weeks away, just a few weeks ago we celebrated 40 years of Southsea Skatepark!

It seems like the perfect time to bring the legendary King of Concrete contest back, and in conjunction with the UK Park and Vert series it’s sure to be a banging weekend. Flatland is on the Saturday, Park, Highest Bunnyhop, Concrete, Vert and good times here in Southsea!

KTGM Jam / 15th September

One week after the Fise contest in Budapest it’s time for the annual KTGM jam in Budapest. “The spot is huge, ~3500m2 in a fascinating green environment. On Saturday afternoon we will hold a best trick contest with high-value prizes supplied by Four pegs BMX.

UK Flatland Championships – Saturday 21st July

If you listened to the Matti Hemmings podcast recently you will know Matti has put a ton of work into the UK Flatland Championships going down next weekend at Dreamlands, Margate, in Kent. Official press release below:

Next week UK Flatland BMX Championships will be going down on the roller disco! 21st July kicks off 8:00 – 18:00 this is also apart of the bloc party see below for more details.
School’s out, the sun is shining and it’s time for a Block Party takeover! Join us for the ultimate mix of street sports, fashion, music, art and dance.
The beat goes on…Big Narstie, Oxide & Neutrino and Jammz will take to the Scenic Stage for the Dreamland Block Party Evening Event. Buy evening tickets here.

All ages are welcome to attend the Block Party event, however, please note that under 14s must be accompanied by an adult (over the age of 18) also holding a valid ticket for the event. Please be aware that amplified noise presents a danger to vulnerable hearing, so we would strongly recommend that you bring hearing protection for your children. Events may contain the use of show effects, such as strobe lighting or smoke machine.

FASHION: Meet some of the latest fashion trendsetters in our interactive marketplace and customise your kicks. Learn how to start up your own fashion label and meet ASOS marketplace favourite fashion designer Siobhan Hogan.

ART: Join local artist Charlie Boyce, in screen-printing his AMAZING collaborative art piece on our giant Mural-by-the Sea billboard. Tell us what makes your Margate or your Block AMAZING.

DANCE: B.Supreme are dedicated to supporting, nurturing and championing opportunities for emerging female hip hop talent. B boys and B girls will take to the stage in pure B.Supreme style to showcase the wealth of talent we have in the UK.

MUSIC: Pie Factory Music will be leading music workshops on how to put on your own music events, while FUN DMC will serve up a slice of old school hip hop dance rave to soundtrack the day. Kids of all ages will have the chance to dress up and dance. Also set to entertain the crowds and described as “London’s premiere hip-hop party” are The Doctor’s Orders, who will be at the park for a feel-good history of hip-hop DJ set. With regular events at Fabric, East Village, The Jazz Café and Scala to name a few, their previous guests have included De La Soul and Jazzy Jeff.

On the 2nd June was held the Flat & Wind Contest in Zaragoza. Actually it was the 25th anniversary from the very first Bmx Contest in this City. Zaragoza is probably the most Hip-hop culture influenced city in Spain, and Bmx has some connection with it. The contest was organized by Alejandro Encinas a.k.a. Neuma.
The day before the contest we did a Jam at the spot in wich a lot of riders showed up!
The day of the contest was great. Around 30 riders from 7 different countries came to ride and have fun. There were Amateur and Pro Class. In both 8 riders made it to the finals.
We started of with the amateur Class. Pino, from Costa Rica, now living in Barcelona, killed it with crazy smooth style and took the victory on the Amateur Class. Followed by Sergio Romo and Istom Rojas.

Pro Class had battle format in the finals which gave a lot of intensity to the contest! Miguel Tardío took the victory with great technique and style against Iñigo Arroyo who showed up with crazy hard new tricks!

It was an amazing weekend and we can not wait for next year. We invite everyone to come for a family and hip-hop vibe contest! Thanks so much for this Neuma!

The UK Flatland Championships is back and in a new location this year with a better floor to boot. Dreamlands, Margate in Kent is the location, Saturday 21st July is the date, £1000 prize money up for grabs. AM/Pro contests, plenty of rad prizes. See you there!

Autum Kunstform Berlin Flat Jam / Friday 11th May

Daniel Fuhrmann sent in details of a flat jam/contest happening this Friday in Berlin at the Mellowprakr, so your going to have to be quick. One for the German riders checking out Flatmatters that can’t make the Fise contest?

“On Friday 11th Matti from Autum bikes in cooperation with Kunstform will run a flatland jam and on saturday there will be a BMX Flatland Contest at the BMX festival Highway to hill at the mellowpark in Berlin. The highway to hill bmx festival is one of the best bmx events in germany and i’m happy that flatland is now a part of it. As well german riders can earn some points for the german flatland champions there.”

“Prepare yourself for a week of riding and island adventures. Get motivated, be creative, meet new people, and most of all have fun! For an entire week riders will be able to jam together and go on adventures around the island. This year we kick off the week with the American Independence Day celebration. There will be fireworks displays around the island and lots activities. The riding format is free form throughout the week, so if you want to ride, just call a session and we’ll make it happen. Planned activities include a BMX Luau, a Photo Safari, and depending on interest, a bonus inter-island trip to the Big Island to check out live volcanos. BRING YOUR BIKE AND GOOD VIBES. LET’S GO!”

Good people bring good vibes and this is so evident from this years Vienna Jam. BMX and flatland needs more of this level of event. Look at all the smiles and good times from Tom Sevisual’s Vienna Jam edit above and Sebastian’s repo below. Big respect to Sebastian for putting this event on and helping grow flatland at a grassroots level whilst on a big stage.


Dustyn Alt killed it all weekend long. Winning the Best Trick on Sunday and collecting plenty of euros during the cash for tricks jam.

What a weekend, but let’s start from the beginning …

It’s been 8 years ago when voices got louder that it’s time for a Flatland Jam in Vienna. It didn’t take long and an already closed BMX Shop and I organized a small jam. Nothing special, just some fun contests like Hang-5 slalom, some goodies from several BMX companies and time to jam together. The main goal was to bring people together and have a good time. From this time on it happened every year …

Now, 8 years later, I got the chance to organize the Vienna Jam at one of European’s biggest bike festivals. The “Bike Festival Vienna” happened for the 20th year in front of Vienna’s city hall on the „Rathausplatz“. It has over 100 000 visitors on the weekend and shows all kind of bike sports.

But now about the weekend …

Friday the Vans Vienna Pre – Jam went down on Vienna’s local spot „Heldenplatz“. Already a lot of riders showed up and spent the evening together riding and hanging out. A very promising start into the weekend.

Saturday all started with Flatland workshops. Viki and me offered everyone who’s interested to ride a BMX bike and try some tricks. To be honest I didn’t expect so many people and I have to say a huge THANK YOU to all the riders who helped out. Workshops were scheduled for 2 hours but it happened to be all morning. Anyway it was a blast to see kids riding and trying their first tricks! The future is bright!

Around noon more and more riders arrived and started to rock the spot. The „Cash for Trix“ Jam late afternoon turned turned out to be huge: 35 riders from 14 nations. We had 500 Euros in small bills to give away and everyone, from beginner to pro, was killing it while DJ Preddy was spinning his 45s.

Right after the Cash for Tricks Jam all the riders moved from Rathausplatz to Heldenplatz to throw down the biggest jam I’ve ever seen on my home spot! Amazing vibes.
We ended the day at a local pub with around 20 riders – cheers!

Again, after a few hours of workshops on Sunday morning, everyone got ready for the Best Trick Contest. 1,5 minutes for each rider to show the best combo or trick. Price money for top five (700, 400, 200, 100, 100).
19 riders from 11 nations took part and everyone rode amazing! Some landed the combo first try, some in the last second. A huge audience was amazed!
Dustyn Alt took the win. He started the Contest and had to leave right after his 1,5 minutes to drive back 6,5 hours to Germany to go to work. Second place went to George Manos, followed by Gilles van de Sompel. Wolfgang Sauter and France Granic placed 4th and 5th.
Again the day ended on Heldenplatz with a big jam … well and for some of us later in the same pub as the day before 🙂

The Vienna Jam will be back for sure – I don’t know when and I don’t know where but I promise, the main goal, like 8 years ago, will be: bring riders together and have a great time riding BMX!
