ABC of Flatland 2014 / A Bmx Film

Non rider, Lavergne Julien put together this amazing edit that tells us all some of the ideas behind the ABC of Flatland event. I don’t normally run the descriptions much on Flatmatters, but this one was a good one!

“ABC of Flatland is a student’s project which is born in January 2013. This idea was to create a BMX international tournament. Lead by Kevin MEYER, a BMX professional rider, and students, this project came alive.

EDA (Ensemble-dynamisons-Alençon) helped us by giving us all the ressources to create this international event.

The success of the 2013-2014 edition, make it possible for this year 2014-2015. The riders of last year were so pleased with the atmosphere, they decided to come back this year.

Our goal is to make of Alençon the meeting point of all the French and international riders, to share our passion with the audience.

See you next year !”

James McGraw – Things I won’t do in Canada

Things I won’t do in Canada from James McGraw on Vimeo.

This weekend James was due to compete at the Toronto FU 10 contest, but was denied entry to the country. He made the best out of a bad weekend! Check out the edit! Heres what James had to say:

“When life throws you lemons make lemonade. After a shitty start to my weekend that would have been my first competition of 2014 marking 30 years of competition. I did the next best thing and went to Chenga world and rode with legendary rider Scott Powell. 🙂 all in all great weekend I rode my bike :-)”

St-Martin: the Mini Darwin 14″

Right now there is a huge market for kids on scooters making the transition to BMX. St Martin just released the Darwin in 14″, check the press release below!

“Yes, a 14-inch bike, not 12, not 16.
The original idea came from Taka at Delirium Distribution, St-Martin distributor in Japan. He realized that there was a big gap between 12″ and 16″ bikes. Some children feel unconfortable on 12″ and 16″ bikes because they are already too tall for a 12″ bike or yet too small for a 16″ bike.
We’ve worked 6 months on that 14″ bike project to reach the best balance possible, in order to make kids happy when they ride.
The bike uses modern technical solutions such as integrated headset, Aheadset stem, cassette hub on rear wheel, forged alloy crank, 4 alloy pegs, unidirectional tires and 1-pc seat/seatpost combo.
And it also uses specific solutions for small riders : 1″ headset, 19 mm O.D. handlebar and grips, 24×9 gearing with short crank arms. A too short gear ratio is not good when combined with short crank arms. Rider may loose bike control because body and legs move too fast.

This nice and small bike will be available in Japan in march and in Switzerland and France in april.”
