  1. winning a flatland contest without having ridden flatland intensively the previous 6 months ! Matthias has such a gift for riding ti’s incredible

  2. What he said about contest pressure is true, I think training hard coupled with knowing that you have a great possibility of winning can be alot of pressure.

p.s I honestly think some of street style tricks got him the win because the judging hasn’t caught up with it, they may be unfamiliar with how difficult or not these tricks actually are..

Believe me Matthias i ask myself that same question ,if a 180 Endo to half cab bar spin wins then i’m entering next year LOL or a repetitive run which we have all seen before year after year and biting that Jeff Desroche combo from 2005 which Jeff should get credit for then all i can say god help the judging, the controversy begins again .
I’m only saying what some other’s are thinking and haven’t the balls to say it , seriously remember this is all a media circus we are all merely critic’s all with opinions that differ agree to disagree at times or get defensive because you don’t feel the same, not my problem .
we don’t pay the rider’s we support them with constructive comments ,it’s not in any way negative personally it’s what i see , i mean i can’t change what i see , the fact is that every major rider should be open to any criticism and either feed off it or get all defensive and take it personally which it isn’t , they are the one’s in the public eye and in a sense are ambassadors for flatland feel free to bite back because i won’t i’m done here i’ve said what i feel , thats my 2 cents worth .

  4. Lot of words for such a small opinion. What matters is the quote “I didn’t invent anything”. He’s pretty dialed, but judging should reflect that as well.

  5. Bullshit if you ask me. Respect the man for his riding but less be real he was not suppose to win that contest an like howard said there perfectly if that is what it takes to win might as well learn easy tricks.

  6. as Michael Steingraber mentionned on Flatmmaters a few days ago, judging has been made with the following criterias:
    difficulty
    variety
    consistency
    overall bike control
i think that if you forget about what you personnaly feel is important in flatland (some riders favor difficulty and place it higher than anything else in their own ranking), and give more consideration to the other criterias and add them up, you’ll may be see that the judges have done their best and that their judging isnt so unfair.
Now..you can question the rules they went by, and that will bring you somwhere else, a different set of rules that might give the win to some other rider than matthias.
But the rules beeing what they are, it doesn’t seem to me that Matthias should have not won.

Anyway, my favorite rider hasn’t even qualified to the final but i don’t care, in my eyes he’s the best 😉 it’s all about what set of rules you go with, what you favor the most.

  7. doesn’t seem like a 2012 championship run would include landing tricks with the bike falling on it’s side, guess the other runs were really bad.

  8. he won ? yeah, ok congrats, let’s cut it !! good for him! it ain’t his fault, it was just no one to reckon with, and don’t get me wrong, all the guys at pro deserve my respect but again, there are A, AA, and AAA top pros (from my personal point of view) no japanese riders where at the worlds, Viki was at this lost island, mr. Foakes doesn’t enter, no UK riders attended, no American pros attended, Simo O’brian is in Australia soooo ??? Kuoppa is in Finland, Kevin and so Matthias wins again, but he has the balls to show up

  9. I hate my PC, I makes me look like a drunk posting this shit. Get it ? he goes, no one shows up, so he wins ! simple as that. I ain’t his fault, but I wonder why no one went…. that’s a good one, not even flatmatters

  10. A very open and humble Matthias. Very good to see him laid back and not so pressured to win. He was at the point before when he was #1 and he was disappointed with getting 2nd place.

Thats the opposite of sportsmanship and perhaps this transition has been good for his attitude towards riding. Or perhaps he is growing.

    Either way good interview!

  11. Nothing to say regarding the controversy and such.

It was the right decision. Matthias had a better run than any other rider in my opinion.

Let’s see what happens at COB when a field of heavy hitters and a highly respectable judging panel collide.

  12. theres a lot to be said for not riding hard up to a contest, no pressure, just enjoy yourself, when u stress yourself you dont ride well and make mistakes, when i treat it like a relaxed jam i always ride better

  13. Some of these comments are hilarious; Howards in particular. Matthias won and he was screwing around basically. If Moto or Ucchie would have been there he would have stepped up his game big time. He rode as hard a he needed to to win. That simple.

  14. Shut it Fred get back to Scooby Doo and the gang i’d hardly call my comment hilarious yeah really funny ha di ha ha i’m in stiches guess small things please small minds.
its called an opinion my opinion i’m not expecting you or anyone to agree but i don’t a*** kiss i have balls i say what i see and if Moto or Ucchie were there he would of rode exactly the same ,same s*** ,different day, boring boring yawn boring comp runs in flatland are yep you got it boring same stuff over and over again no wonder Viki Gomez has had enough he just quit riding for golf sums up the flatland scene really,
As for Matthias same tricks he’s been doing for years he wasn’t screwing around thats his repetoire if you bothered to watch most of his vids online you would see that , now i really am done here and i’m amazed to see 15 comments on a non event won by a clown sorry i mean clone.

  15. LMAO. Too funny Howard. Do you ride at all or just spend your entire day behind a computer with Flatmatters on your screen? LMAO. Thank you for the Sunday evening laugh.

  16.
