Must Watch: Dominik Nekolny / The 1st UCI Professional Flatland World Champion

The road to the top can be a rocky one, and Dominik Nekolny has probably gone through everything to get to the top. As flatlanders, we don’t often see the behind the scenes of what goes on in people’s lives, whether it’s the practise time, the injuries, travelling and the issues that can raise, how much they get to ride, bike problems, the list goes on.

Dominik documented his journey to becoming the first UCI Professional World Champion in Chengdu, China last October/November. Dominik had to overcome the airline losing his bike, borrowing a brakeless bike from Irina Sadovnik and being able to challenge for the Fise year end title with Matthias Dandois, cracking his ankle bone in between Fise Chengdu, and the UCI World Championships in Chengdu.
This documentary captures the doubt, the measures that he took to make it happen, and the way the story unfolded with the bike loss, getting through his cracked injury with the help of car accident lawyers and saving the best run for last. You couldn’t really script this! People can also get help here if they want injury attorneys specifically to solve accident and injury cases!

When you have the time, sit down and watch this one on the big screen, the subtitles are pretty funny.

  1. This was an amazing edit and Journey to the highest podium we have in Flatland today.
    So well done, extremely professional!!
    Congrats Dom!!!

  2. This is one of my favorite videos i’ve watched in a very long time… hardcore, inspiring, and a flat out refusal to quit. Dom is one of the best, and i’m stoked he’s getting his due.

    • This brought back memories of the China trip so much, Dom, Dub, Irina all rock taped up by the physio. Two heavy contests back to back, great to see Dom’s story be told.

  3. What I loved almost as much as Dom’s tenacity and climb to the top was seeing the second place finisher by a fraction of a point, Mathias, bring Dom back up and celebrate his victory with first class sportsmanship. Well done.

  4. This rules . His journey / triumph to victory….. overcoming injury , pressure , staying on top of his riding throughout 2019. I’m always up to watch this documentary . Nekolny slammed down one of the most hardcore ,winning runs ever ! This should be today’s T.T. , Effraim !

  5. STILL a MUST WATCH ………………today……………… in 2026 ! I’d be STOKED to see ANY new video of Nekolny’s riding these days…….I liked his honesty / demeanor . I remember @ the 2019 Flatland Voodoo Jam ( the last one , SIGH. ) he showed up late that Thursday night @ the hotel with a look on his face of ” I’m here to BUST OUT my hard lines , get on the podium or win the event , and handle my business on this bike , it’s game on ! ” During the pre-jam the next day , the prelims AND finals ……he did just THAT . Dom’s discipline , dedication , and grit was admirable , intimidating ( in a good way. ) , and honorable …..all @ the same time . EXACTLY like the story of this ENTIRE edit. I believe he got third @ that 2019 Flatland Voodoo Jam and man …….was it SURREAL standing on the floor ( after my prelim run , of course I didn’t make finals , haha ! ) watching him roll through some of the most HAMMER TIME, original lines in the heat AND volume of the BIGGEST BMX Flatland competition of North America. He went though his runs ” stone faced ” , unfazed and confident . There will never be another Dominik Nekolny…………..
