It does seem you can categorise flatlanders right now, 2 piece bars, check! Double diamond frame, check! I could on… And why? fashion? Scared to be different? Scared to think? The whole text is very thought provoking!

So much respect for this guy, hope some day we cross paths.
Chase’s manner of speaking/writing has a bit of a learning curve. But once you learn to roll with the multiple meanings often associated with his style they often take on even more importance. You almost have to read them aloud to digest the rhythm and meter of his intentions.
This article was fairly tame from a stylist standpoint for Chase. I think for good reason… he is trying to shed some light on a matter that has a stick your head in the sand and just be cool mentality. To combat that you want to put your argument in simplest terms.
This is only basic human behavior. It did not start with 2 pc bars and double diamond frames, and it will probably won’t stop anytime soon either. This is going on everywhere not just flatland.
Seeing and reproducing is part of us, deeply, that’s how we even learnt how to speak in the first place. The need to be accepted by our peers is part of us too.
Most Creativity happens when mistakes are made trying to copy.

If we didn’t have to shell a 100 notes for Chase bars, only for them to snap under normal use, then the trends might not of steered (excuse the pun) naturally in the direction they have done (2pc) etc, if that’s what he’s really getting at here.
Chase is one of my fav riders, but man…ease up on the tosh waffle. Let it go…let the fresh blood do it the way they want to.
Two-piece bars are just an example. It’s the never-ending spinning steamroller-based tricks that are killing the creativity in flatland. How many generic spinning steamroller edits do we see here each week? The skill of these riders can’t be denied but c’mon! It’s getting ridiculous!

why is it that everyone thinks it is so much better to be different ?
My advice for the highly creative individuals out there is that they start creating for themselves. And let the other riders lead their own life and ride their own way….even if they don’t approve it. Tolerance.
I think people are tolerant. If anything I think most top pro’s these days are pretty slack about the views they have on originality in terms of putting those opinions on others. When I think back to the view on originality I heard from Andrew Faris and Paul Osicka it seemed like the need to be original was a lot more fierce. I always thought that was rad.
I’m always curious to read Chase’s words. However, I’ve never really understood why people criticize bike set ups as being limiting. It doesn’t make sense because any particular bike set up (brakeless, 2 pc bars vs. pretzel frame) has an infinite number of tricks that are available. It’s a limitation of the mind, not a limitation of a bike set up.
Creative dudes will always create, no matter what bike they are riding.

shit man just ride do whatever its only a bike its not the be all and end all of everything just ride do tricks have fun blah blah blah thats the bottom line too much has been made out of a simple thing as a hobby straight up no bull ,you think when i ride i think about bike set ups ,clothing all the politics or other people’s tricks or why i’m here doing it or worrying about other peoples views on it etc etc hell no , i’m with Trev on this one “Chase is one of my fav riders, but man…ease up on the tosh waffle. just to add i got style when i dance and when i walk i’m like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever hit me that 70’s beat homeboy, but do i make an issue out of style nah we are not clones we are human beings from planet earth we all differ in one way or another can we just accept that ,all this worrying about this,that and the other will not change a thing ,we only live once .
its a pity we don’t worry about animals more than worrying about each other ,then at least they may be lest cruelty in the world.
