Matthias Dandois New BMX style – Street-Flat

Check this awesome video from Matthias Dandois, filmed during the winter time. This edit reminded me a lot of the skateboard video “Cheese and Crackers”, finding obstacles and moving them around, finding different lines to do, the last line he does especially is sick! Well worth a watch!

  1. Matthias is the rodney mullen of BMX ! haha ! what he does on the bank reminds me a lot of the video we just watched on rodney mullen.

  2. He is taking the mullen road. Street riders are borrowing flat tricks, hang5’s whiplashes etc. And now Matthias is slapping them around the ears with even more flat inspired tricks.

  3. that’s the privilege of ageing, whatever you do it tends to be seen as more legitimate if you’re old, funny thing….But also a lot of other reasons.

  4. I like how the comments on Thecomeupbmx reflect how this is not a new style. Degroot and others have done plenty of street/flat too. Most of the street riders that use flat techniques are doing very progressive things with them such as hang 5 to rail. I like the downside whip at the end. This edit reminds me of this one with Dakota a lot, probably because of the similar objects and such.

  5. we should leave TCU comments on TCU. i thought the comments here got ridiculous, but to read the things those kids say…. as far as street/flat, mark eaton should be proud of this

  6. Street riders have been riding flat since the 80’s Pete Augustin,Craig Grasso,Eddie Roman etc and flat riders have been riding street since the 80’s Perry Mervar,Steve Lavender,Mark Eaton etc names hardly new really ,Matthias edit very good yes.

  7. One of my favorite street/flat guys is Akira Okamura. All that and rails too.
So saying it’s a new style is a bit much. Also Bill’s link he posted with Dakota sums it up as far as putting obstacles together different ways.

  8. althoug the riding here is incredibly good and i love it, it’s probably not a revolution the way it is looking right now, but let’s see how far Matthias pushes this concept he has. I have to agree that to me this could be described as technical street riding. In fact i think that Street riding has more to gain from matthias riding, than flatland does. I thought for a while that i could be the opposite, like bringing more street moves in flat wich sounded exciting for the overall flatland tricktionary. But i think that we are only witnessing Matthias strong interest towards Street riding. Wich is neither good or bad, but only a different way. Well may be i’m allwrong we’ll see how it goes. Props to Matthias anyway this guy is 1000 more gifted than i will ever be !

  9. The comparison between mullen and mathias does not
Make sense. Mullen invented all the tricks he is doing
Name me the tricks mathias has invented?? maybe one?
I like his innovative links though

  10. This is a decent edit. But, there really is little that is innovative in there. It is really mostly stuff that has been done by Florent Soulas and Guillaume Le Goff. Riding is just riding regardless who does what based on discipline. So, I don’t really see the need for distinction. Florent Soulas and Danny Macaskill have done some of the most technical riding in any genre. They are more the ones that have taken technical to a whole other level.

  11. Matthias is just having fun so that he doesn’t burn out just on flatland. Riding street can be more fun sometimes and you can get fresh ideas from awesome riders and go on adventures as opposed to riding, primarily, on your own. It’s also a way to keep riding when you don’t feel like riding flat. Since I started riding everything I’ve found that I really want to ride everyday.

What Matthias is doing is pretty cool and he’s developing his street game really well. There are times now when he doesn’t look like a flatlander. On street, it’s not that exciting for me, but what I love is how he brings the street to the flatland arena in a way that other guys never really did. I appreciate what Howard is saying, but in the past, peoples’ street and flat games were usually more separate.

  12. Yeah – the comparison between Mullen and Matthias is totally ridiculous. Even comparing Kevin Jones to Mullen would be ridiculous. BMX doesn’t have a Mullen, because Mullen laid the foundations for the most popular form of his sport. Kevin Jones is like Mullen to us, but to BMX as a whole he’s nobody. . .

  13. comparison between Mullen and Dandois was only a first degree/first look comparison regarding the type of tricks they do mixing flat and street. Off course theses are two seperate individuals with different destinies and destinations. off course Matthias is not the Rodney Mullen of BMX, but it’s going to be very interesting to see what becomes of him in the future.

  14. I should be the first to do this or perhaps people are already working on it here goes: Fly-out Cliffhanger.
Imagine: bunnyhop -> push bars forward -> spread legs -> catch rear tire and seat -> Pinch seat and put feet on front pegs -> land -> balance and ride to a coping or the end of a bank. Jump out opposite as you got in and hear the crowd go wild! That would be a signature trick! Also imagine the bails and crashes they could be gruesome.

  15. Comparing dandois to mullen hhhhhhahaha that is comedy gold . Rodney mullen is an extremely intelligent individual …. matthias is definitely not .
