The Red Bull Circle of Balance is back!

Great news broke this morning on Instagram! Argueably the most prestigious event in flatland history is back! The Red Bull Circle of Balance! September 8th in Kyoto, Japan! The judges will be all former COB riders! It looks right now like the first invites went out to the Red Bull athletes, with other invites to follow. * Just heard Dez Maarsen has been invited! More details to follow shortly!

    • @mark K yes def a livestream would be amazing for all those who can’t get there.
I briefly talked to organiser Andy Zeiss earlier today, and he said he would forward more details soon! So look out!
Last time I was in Japan for the COB it was amazing, that time I was called in as a late judge.

  1. Okay, I’d say those guys are pretty obvious. But you’d have to assume they need more riders, wouldn’t they? Who are the others?

    • I have no idea Mike! I asked Andy , he said it would be confirmed, “depends on how fast the boys get back to us”… I forget how many they took last time….

  2. my prime involvement in flatland since the last CoB surely makes me a shoe-in for an invite! hello?! 😉

    • Im sure the organisers will consider Martti a judge. As a former contestant who would surely be first on the list, then you have guys like Mike S, the list goes on…

  3. E,

I would love to be involved in anyway. Last time was great and I was glad to help. Its a real great event that pushes Flatland and inspires many. It also shows the potential for Flatland on a high level with the proper investments.

  4. Definitely Scott!

Couldn’t agree more. I do remember having goosebumps last time when I got invited to go and watch (ended up judging). Was so much fun!

  5. They should invite Simon for sure. It would be good to have some riders that were there in the beginning and can still cut it with the best.

I’m definitely going. 100%. It’ll be good to catch up with you Mike, Effraim and I’m sure plenty of other old friends too. I’m psyched!

    • @ paul.
I dont know if i am invited. I haven’t heard anything so..
What I do know is the rider list is taking shape, so far:

      Matthias,
      Terry,
      Viki,
      Alex Jumelin,
      Adam Kun,
      Dominik Nekolny,
      Dez Maarsen,

I am presuming ucchie as he is a red bull rider in japan.

There will be 16 riders this year (invitation only) and the format will be head-to-head knock-out style.

The event will have some new and developed format with fresh elements so you can look forward to that…

      Prize Money (in $US):

      1st: $5000
      2nd: $3000
      3rd: $2000
      4th: $1000

If a rider loses in the first round: $500

If they make it to the second round: $750

      Total prize purse: $18,000

Thats all I Know. Sounds great!!!!

  6. It’s not gonna feel like the CoB unless they invite a range of riders from different countries. I appreciate that a lot of the top riders lie within Japan, but it’s not about finding a winner, it’s about the spectacle. Showing all of the diversity within flatland.

I’ll be keen to see if some unexpected riders get an invite. That would be cool.

I already planned my trip now. Gonna stay in Japan for a month or so. Maybe five weeks. Fly to Osaka, stay a couple of days, head to Kyoto for a week or so. Go somewhere else with my wife – she wants to see some monkeys in the mountains and Tokyo, then back to Osaka to stalk Akira for a couple of weeks. Now to get the money…
