Bizhouse Brooklyn Mod

Are brakes coming back? There have been some interesting developments happening in BMX recently. Bizhouse’s Shawn White hit me up late last night with this Brooklyn Mod concept which was developed along with Carlos Coste. The idea is to do away with welds on your AD lugs, so you buy forks, drill the holes yourself and boom your done. Time will tell if this works and if you trust yourself with a drill. Let’s discuss this one in the comments section.

Repo: Sport Zone 1st Anniversary

Text/Video: Rob Alton.

Grassroots events are so important to the development of flatland, Ron Alton is doing great things in Hungary with his Sport Zone project. Check out his quick repo and videos. Good work Rob!

On March the 11th 2018 we celebrated one year since we opened Sport Zone with a BMX Jam for the kids, Master and Pro riders. The kid’s event went down in the morning with separated categories, 16″ and 20″. They had different challenges to help them learn confidence and consistency, fast track, Pit Stop, 180 and 360 bar spins, Boomerang and Best Trick Contest. Main highlights were first the 14 kids that took part followed by Dudás Misi pulling his first Peg Boomerang in front of the crowd to make it even better (unfortunately just out of camera shot) and Filip Marcell did a triple bar spin standing on the pedals for the first time too. The kids and parents had a great day and it seems BMX Flatland has a great future, in our town at least! One of the kids, Lázár just 7 years old totally motivated from Sunday, went home, practiced and on Wednesday night pulled a FULL boomerang, so inspiring!

The afternoon was the Master and Pro riders with, Bunny Hop, Pinky Squeaks, Whiplash, Mega Spin Battle and Front Wheel-Back wheel contests. We saw some great riding from the regular Hungarian riders plus Leon Vignjević and Frane Granic from Croatia. The video shows just a few of the highlights from the riders and a feeling of how the day went. The riders got great trophies thanks to Kreativ-fa-ajándék, great Pizza from La Pizza Nostra and to top if of birthday cake from the Gombai Cukrászda all three of our local sponsors. Thanks also to Elite BMX Shop, Colony BMX, Four Pegs, Márton Szilágyi and Monster Energy. All of these people helped make it a great event!

Our next event will be later this year with a normal contest format. I will do my best to get some prize money and make it bigger and better. I think we are going in good direction and we just need the support of more international riders and sponsors. So come on guys come to Sport Zone!

Must Watch – Mates Tuček / Freestyle Kolbenka 2017-2018

There is a new beast emerging from the Czech republic scene, Mates Tuček has been on the verge for a couple of years now. You see moments and think, this guy can make it at the very top level. After riding with Mates for a week last year at the Battle in the Rockies contest I have no doubt. From what I have seen Mates is one of the most skilled riders in the game right now, and he’s doing something I really like a lot. He’s learning everyone’s tricks, but… then he’s putting his own twist on them, something I recall Moto Sasaki used to do.

Whilst this edit wasn’t my favourite for the music choice, I did enjoy the sheer quality of what he is doing. And truthfully I don’t think Mates is not doing this with the intent to get a “Must Watch” and that’s one of the things I really liked about him, he doesn’t even realise how good he is. There is a wonderful charm, and innocence to his riding, that I really admire in this day and age where people message me with “Here’s my Must watch edit” Mates is just doing his thing and we can all learn a lot from this guy.

At 7:25 long, you definitely need to grab a cuppa, yeah I know that’s my catchphrase so why not use it huh? Without highlighting everything, here are some the standouts in my couple of watches, but I know I will going back over this again and again. This edit deserves you attention!

1:17: One footed teakettle hand round the back jump over to xft steam off the same foot, amazing technicality and originality.

2:09: Tea Kettle to xft halfpacker bar flip xft halfpacker jump to crackpacker, difficulty level off the chart.

2:38: Guillotine seat grab turbine pivot crack!

3:14: One of my Personal favourites, xft karl one handed step one handed to crack, this is next level. The art of switching and pivoting without the hand is so difficult and one I appreciate a lot from having similar ideas, blown away with this one!

4:31: Not even sure what we call this one, like a side hang 5 karl position all tweaked up to xft halfpacker, Mates skill base is opening up some highly creative lines.

7:10: Tea kettle xft halfpacker step back xft one handed to crackpacker! This move right here is one of the wildest moves we will see all year and he makes it look easy! If Mates can get some support, this guy can become the next big sensation in flatland. March is proving to be a great month for edits!

One Love Jam 2018

Mizo Misael dropped this nice edit from this year’s One Love Jam in Newport Beach, California. I forgot to post this despite writing the description. Featuring Bruno Zebu, James McGraw, Robert Reilly, Bert Ribul, Sean Fontenot, Mizo himself shredding on Bruno’s bike, Pete Brandt, Lucas Koala, good vibes from Cali!
