  1. A very talented rider.

No downtalk towards him personally, but it does bother me to see almost exactly switch to switch on half of his combo’s to be exactly like matthias. In the flatland environment there is endless possiblities (literally, endless.) and I just dont understand why someone would put so much of their personal time and effort towards something that does not create any type of individuality.

Originality is something that is possible for every rider on this planet. I believe that if people want to set themselves apart to be recognized then they must strive for unique riding style.

  2. Another way to look at it is just go learn the tricks you like the most. If that requires a carbon copy of some other well known rider so what. The constant quest for originality may just diminish the quest for fun resulting in another rider quitting. Most often a new rider emulates another rider before developing any originality. If I could have copied every combo The Real McCoy did back in the day I would have. And look at me, 40 years old and still loving riding even though I have absolutely no originality. Unless you plan on doing Flatland for a living, just go ride and do whatever the hell you want on that little BMX.

Sean, your riding is killer by the way. I’d copy it if I could:)

  3. i had the same reaction as Sean when i first looked at the vid, then just like Reggie i thought ‘so what’.

i’m your age Reggie and maybe the thing is that when we were riding over two decades ago originality wasn’t as obsessive as now, so we might have another look at it.

i kind of agree with both of you 😉

anyway so good riding, carbon copy or not, bravo !

  4. Perhaps we do have another perspective because of the time when we started riding Julien. I understand what Sean meant too, and would agree with him that originality is ostensibly important for contest purposes.
