This is the third year I have been running the King of Southsea contest! Fancy a warm up before the Circle of Balance?

2-4pm – Flatland Novice/AM/Pro * Flat Practise all morning!
430-530- Best trick over Box in rink.
6- 7 – Pro Spine MIni
7-8 – Best trick Plaza (One group)

Sunday

Doors open 10am.
11-12.30- AM Street
1.30-3 – Pro Street
3.30-4 – Veteran Street
4.30-5 – Highest Bunnyhop
5.30-6.30 – Highest air in Keyhole/ Best trick in bowls

Eclat Freecoaster Sneak Peek

Freecoasters seem to be all the rage again, with the increase in “cab” style in street riding. Dave Paterson over at the merged website posted this earlier. In his words “Probably one of the most anticipated BMX products in the past few year, Eclat‘s Shane Weston Signature Blind Freecoaster Hub looks to be near completion. There has been major hype about this thing ever since we papped it at Eurobike last year, and this photo stolen from Eclat’s Instagram may be a clue to its upcoming release. Real excited for this one, expect more info towards Interbike in September…”

Gananoque Flatland Contest 2012

This past weekend was the annual Gananoque Flatland Contest 2012, the riders headed out for a weekend of fun flatland sessions in the middle of the 1000 islands by the waterfront. The contest format for pro was 5 tricks. Below are the results from the Pro contest. Check out that huge flatland area!

Sometimes I feel like dudes are overlooked in the flatland scene, and I am guilty of it myself. Case in point right now, I’ve seen Shayne Khajehnoori quietly going about his business over the last ten or so years. Of course many of you will know Shayne for his videos under the Neon Media label. Nowadays Shayne is killing the back wheel over in Nor Cal. This bikecheck is well overdue!

Anything specific to you that you must have on your own ride?:
All my bikes have Revenge Dakine grips on them so I can absorb THC through my palms while riding, far out! I also have this crazy bracelet woven by a gypsy wrapped around my rear hub which transmits power & energy into my rear wheel (mostly it keeps the Profile shell clean).

Advice to beginners on bike set ups?
If you’re just starting out, experiment with different setups and find what works for you. I would recommend, in the beginning, not setting your bike up in a way that would limit the types of tricks you learn. Learn a variety of tricks, so don’t be afraid to try a variety of setups. Don’t be afraid of brakes, high seats, under 9″ bars. Sometimes the trendiest bikes aren’t the easiest to ride flatland on. Whichever way you set your bike up ultimately does not matter too much; how much you ride your bike and how much fun you’re having is the most important.
