Yesterday, I got a surprise from Alexis Desolneux over at Heresy HQ!
Jigen Omotehara is the latest addition to the Heresy team, that is growing again, that is pretty amazing news in the current climate.
Not only the news, but also a great, short and sweet edit to boot that Heresy and Jijen managed to keep quiet until this release.
Jigen has a unique style and flow to his riding, the edit is around 2:20 long, so this is a easy one to digest.
The line at cross foot crackpacker pivot line at 1:46, had me hitting rewind quite a few times, all of his lines are unique, love the switch pedal 5 footjam and flips steam at 00:35.
Sevisual on the editing skills, nice track, great to see a good riding edit in the middle of summer. Totally not expecting this!
Get used to the name, Jigen Omotehara has a big future, kudos to Heresy for having the foresight to pick him up!

Must Watch: Sietse Van Berkel / Thread
Put one of the most stylish riders in the game, Sietse van Berkel, with one of the best filmers and cinematographers, Tom at Sevisual, and your onto something good!
Especially liked the line at the legendary Heroes Square riding spot in Budapest at 2:03, and there’s much more. Sietse’s riding is easy on the eye, and Toms editing and filming compliments perfectly.
Need some hype for today’s session, here it is…
Must Watch: Osaka Tour / Yu Katagiri & Friends
Great to see some fresh Yu Katagiri and Takato Moriya footage out of Japan, throw in a TEP posse edit and you know your onto a winner. Great mix in styles between Yu Katagiri, Yuta Watanabe, Sota Watanabe, Kota Ikeda, and Takato Moriya.
Yu’s banger at 1:10 had me hitting the rewind numerous times to work what he did, good mixes in styles between all the riders, short and sweet with Takato finishing their visit to Osaka at 2:53 with more back wheel craziness.
I love to see this out of the Japanese riders, we don’t see enough of these guys on the site!
Must Watch: Brandon Fenton/ Lashed Out
The whiplash road of progression in flatland, not many walk the walk.. Brandon Fenton is one of those guys, that’s taken the time to master the skill, commitment and balance point. Offloading a few years worth of variations, there’s numerous examples to highlight.
2:10: Just off a foot jam, how many backwards whiplashes Brandon can do, not to mention spot envy. 10 backwards whiplashes is so hard, backwards bar variation at 3:09 too!
2:44: Opposite side downside whiplashes might be one of the best looking flatland tricks ever, here Brandon makes it look easy…
4:36: Regular backwards whiplashes rebate to opposite backwards whiplashes.
5:30: Opposite whiplashes turbine no scuff to backwards whiplashes.
And many more like I said, the lonely road of whiplash progression seems few and far between in modern day flatland world. Loved this edit Brandon put together, a pure artist unlocking the codes and his technique is on point. Respect!
Must Watch: Float/ A Flatland Film
Anthony Schneidewind at TS Visual Media put in hell of a lot of work into producing a flatland film together just over an hour long!! Mostly in like mix tape format with a few sections put together that I really enjoyed. The time flew by watching this, loved the Wright brothers part, Will Redd’s part at 39:46 with some unique turbine moves, death truck puppet turbines, locomotive turbines, and much more to boot, to mention all the amazing riders in between throwing a clip here and there.
The highlight without a doubt is Bruno Zebu’s part at 53:00, x-ft skills to pay the bills. His lines are absolutely ridiculous and just keep building, his pivot skills and generating speed mid pivot is something special, I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched it yet.
I would say grab a cuppa, and jump on this one as soon as you can. It’s a great start to 2025!
Must Watch: Nous BMX Summer Vacation
Here’s one that slipped under my radar after Nous released the Summer Vacation on IG a while back. I remember thinking I hope they release this on YT, so much easier to watch and enjoy.
1. It’s really good that Nous BMX made a full production, and are showing their video on all social media platforms, thats the way to do it. This video was part of the Moto Bunka Film Festival in the summer.
2. Great feel, and production, music, locations from their summer tour, camera work all spot on here, gave me the feel in production like Diversion had..
3. Of course let’s talk about the riding, Takatora Hishikawa is an amazing talent, winner of the No Saga run contest this summer shows why with this insane back wheel line at 1:15, so much style from this kid. Nice to see that Nous seem to grow and help the younger generation on their journey to pro level, that’s what sponsorship is all about.
4.I talked about this guy in previous FM year end awards, the up and coming Ren Oshima rips with killer bike flip lines at 2:25, and 6:04. So much power in his riding, big future for all these Nous cats.
5. I’ll be honest, it’s motivating for me to see more high level content going onto Vimeo and Youtube, so we have something to talk about. Let’s grow Flatland, Nous have been smart with this production, I hope others follow!
Must Watch: MATSUDO YEAR END JAM 2024
The Matsudo Year end jam hits a little earlier this year, produced by Jimalog. These edits always have a few surprises, and new faces, and this doesn’t disappoint. Imagine being in a scene like that, old faces, new faces, new tricks and styles each year. Let’s talk about this one in the comments section!

Must Watch! Dan Hennig: Inside Out / Just Bangers
As I still celebrate 16 years of Flatmattersonline, it was awesome this morning to get a message from Dan Hennig showing me his new edit. Beautiful quality, camera angles and sharp editing, and plenty of bangers I have never seen before.
From the opening Perverted Rolaid at 00:19 I was intrigued on this one, so great to see Dan visit a forgotten move it feels like, you don’t see many cross foot pedal steams anymore, and Dan unlocks the vault at the 2:01 with a nice cross foot pedal steam to half cab 3’s which he cleans up (I was waiting for the scooter rollback) and it’s not there, to steep decade out to pedals, great line! Worth noting here there’s a big difference in execution with a steep brakeless decade, and one where the front wheel is almost on the floor.
At the 4:00 mark the fakie whooper to brakeless turn bucket to pedals is so clean, loved this one! The camera angles and locations also, I found really cool, he didn’t film any of this edit in his indoor spot, so this feels a little special and well thought out.
Great to see Dan dig a little deeper outside of his contest routine, especially at the 6:08 mark, and the inside ice cream bikeflip to pedals half cab whopper, pure beast, and the final plastic man line mixed in cross pedal steam to half cab 3’s back into half cab to xft steam and ending with regular pedal steam, is solid!
Great work Dan, a man thats battled cancer and has come out swinging. This edit has elevated Dan’s riding and that’s what edits and filming video parts are all about. I’ll be back to watch this one again, stoked!!
16 YEARS OF FLATMATTERSONLINE!
“To document, share and progress”, the mission statement if you like of Flatmattersonline has remained consistent since FM’s birth in 2008. As I wondered what I can produce to celebrate our 16th anniversary, I asked around a few friends as I always do for some feedback. One of the ideas was to showcase 16 highlights throughout the years, that idea stuck in my head for a few days before I started going through the archives and thinking this had a nice feel to it.
I enjoyed going through content I had forgotten about, and I thought you at home would do also.
It’s hard to fathom its been 16 years being Flatmatters, I appreciate all the support I have been receiving especially recently. It seems as I am pretty much the only consistent the only flatland website, riders seem to appreciate the work that goes into running the site much more.
It would be interesting to hear back from you at home, what are some of your most memorable moments?
*The actual anniversary was Saturday 30th November, which I missed being at work all day.

Must Watch: Sebastian Grubinger / Reminiscence
I have no idea what’s going on right now with all these amazing edits, but I love it! We are currently in “Must Watch” season a few months earlier than I anticipated.
And this man, Heresy’s Sebastian Grubinger’s continues to be one of my favourite riders, video parts were made of this guy and he doesn’t disappoint here revisiting some classic Grubinger lines that still hold up to this day. I’ll be watching this one for a while, and you might well be too!
Highlights for me:
00:28: peg to peg boomerang to switch foot backwards peg wheelie pivot to backwards rolling straddle-roni.
1:09: Whiplash around the bars to Karl 360 bar flip out.
1:39: A forwards bar flip Karl line I’ve wanted to see Sebastian re-do for years.
