Orbea launch the Viki Gomez Freestyle Complete Bikes Range

Everyone knows Viki Gomez is riding for Orbea. But until now, there hasn’t been a whole lot of press coverage around the company and what the project is all about. The wait is over.
The Orbea concept is simple.
“Is it possible to design a bike to enjoy the magic and balance of Flatland, the adrenaline of Street and the technique of Park? The frame and components of the new Rude have been carefully selected to let riders pick their own style and enjoy the different disciplines of BMX.
Rude 10 & 20.”

The complete bikes comes in 2 different versions: Rude 10 and Rude 20. Both versions are available with 3 different frame sizes: 19.6″, 20.75″ and 21″ TT. I’m guessing Viki rides the 19.6. The chain stay is 12.7″ for the 19.6″ TT and 13.2″ for the other 2 TT lengths. The head angle is 75°.

Below you can see Viki showing how to set up a bike ready for flatland riding.

Reklamation Bikes is here!

The flatland market is a tough one to break into, Jake Umberger got in touch with news of a new flatland company, these guys look they are doing it right! Good luck guys! Read the official press release below.

Reklamation Bikes is here!

Reklamation Bikes is an American made flatland bike company out of Fort Lupton, Colorado. Our focus is on simplicity and functionality; no fluff or gimmicks. Just what works using the best quality materials and craftsmanship.

Reklamation Bikes is owned and operated by Robert Reilly and Jake Umberger (of Colorado Flatland Jams). In late 2012, having worked hard to help bring back the sense of fun, family and community to our sport in their own scene, Jake and Robert decided to apply what they remembered, loved and learned from their years of riding flatland to products.

Thus was born Reklamation Bikes. In every one of our products you will see these same qualities: simplicity, functionality, strength, quality materials, craftsmanship, made in the USA and above all, fun.

The first Reklamation Bikes product is our first frame: The SKJ (pronounced “skidge”) is a no gimmicks, 100% business, flatland frame. No silly pretzel bends, goofy extras or strange geometry nonsense. Just a simple BMX frame, built for flatland, front to back. Everything that works and nothing that doesn’t.

With no removable brake mounts to come loose, the SKJ comes with either permanent brake mounts or none at all. If you do like brakes, our dual cable stops and guides are perfectly placed for optimum brake set up and gyro functionality. No need for zip ties or electrical tape.

No super high or ridiculously low stand over height; just the right height for strength and low enough to stay out of the way. A built in seat clamp with replaceable nut and bolt keeps things simple and functional.

We believe no one should ever have to grind out the drop outs on their frame to fit a 14mm axle. All drop outs fit 14mm axles right out of the box, letting you use inexpensive adapters if you run a 3/8″ axle and never requiring you to bring a grinder anywhere near your frame.

With the use of OX Platinum on the top and down tubes and true 4130 chromoly everywhere else, the SKJ offers the best balance between strength and weight.

The SKJ retails for $399.00 +Shipping. Currently we are only selling direct, but hope to have a US distributor and beyond soon. (If you are interested in becoming a Reklamation Bikes reseller or distributor, contact us at info@reklamationbikes.com) For ordering information, see our website or call us direct at 720.297.0197.

You go through a lot of frames, what’s different with this one?
I’m super stoked on the new frame and bars that we have come up with! Because I do a lot of whip and decade style stuff it is really hard on frames. On this frame the main focus was strength and it has been holding on real nice. It is the strongest frame I’ve ridden so far without having any problems with it.
It has thicker tubing, built in gussets on down and toptube, tubing is double butted and the toptube is slightly higher to get the best angle to withstand stress. It is slightly heavier, weighing around 2 kg but it feels super stable.
It should be going into production soon and it will be available in 19,2, 19,5, 20 and 20,5 ” toptube sizes.

Any modifications: The white stripes on my tyres!
I cut down my forks steerer tube, because nowadays everything is topload and very high so there’s no need for soo many spacers plus it looks real clean.

Anything specific to you that you must have on your own ride: A bit ghetto’ish look.

Sponsors: Red Bull, Jungle Rider, Vans.

Advice to beginners on bike set ups? Don’t rush on taking off the brakes, they are useful on learning all the basics which will really come in handy in the future.

Thanks Bert! See you at the Worlds!

Alex Worden introduces the [st]rollercoaster

Alex Worden hit me up with this exciting news….

“A new vision of the rollercoaster has arrived. Unlike the original Bendix coasterbrake mod, you can run any hub because the [st]rollercoaster has been designed to operate in within the bottom bracket.

The [st]rollercoaster bottom bracket enables the locking of the cranks through backpedaling and the internal system can be flipped within the bottom bracket it enables the locking of the pedals in the forward position also.

The goal to the [st]rollercoaster is to open the door for new tricks and positions for both the new and old schools. The [st]rollercoaster is in its final stage of R&D and currently being prototyped for the final product. Stay tuned.”
