Jean-Francois Boulianne: The Southern Escape / The story behind a Must Watch!

This past winter, Jean-Francois Boulianne made his travels south to Peru and Colombia to avoid the harsh cold Canadian winter.
No one could have anticipated the Covid 19 pandemic that was to follow, and JFB has held onto this edit for a couple of months.
When Jean first hit me up with the edit, I asked what he had been up to during the winter, as I had seen a few posts on social media and was curious what his story was, and he seemed to be away from home for a long time.
After a few conversations back and forth, it became apparent to me that I should showcase this amazing edit a little differently than your normal Must Watch video breakdown.
Without further ado, it’s time to learn a little more about Jean’s travels and enjoy this edit, as the story goes deeper than just tricks, and captures for me what BMX is all about….

X Games 2000 Flatland Finals

One of the most memorable moments from the X-Games era, was that moment in 2000 when Martti Kuoppa took the Gold medal in San Francisco. At that moment I believe Trevor Meyer had the gold three times in a row, the euro riders really came out swinging at this event it felt like with Martti, Phil Dolan, Alex Jumelin, Mike S and many more including myself (just missing the final cut). Amazing era for flatland and I am grateful to have been involved in it.

The road to the X Games: 1999 Louisville X Trials

The X Trials back in the 90’s were the qualifying events to be in the X-games. In 1999, I flew out to the states for two months to compete in the X Trials in Louisville, and Richmond Virginia. I was beyond stoked to make it to the 99 X games on the first attempt in Louisville, Kentucky behind Jason Brown R.I.P. and Trevor Meyer. Great to watch this back today!

If you caught our Flat Snitches episode with Steve Mulder earlier in the year, you will recall where I talked about Steve riding flawless, and still not making the cut with bomb move after bomb. Look out for the no handed 360 bike flip at 2:20 and hand job move at 00:57! This week marks 25 years of the X Games, so today’s posts are dedicated to some awesome X games moments I could find.

Last week we made it to episode 30 of the Flatmattersonline exclusive clips.
After a short break for episode 4 of Flat Snitches, it’s time to return to the clips, and William Herve from France stepped up for the 31st episode with an awesome brakeless backwards facing stem-a-rang.
This trick looks like scary one to learn, how do you begin to learn this one and get a feeling for the move? Props to William for getting this done and contributing towards the culture.
