Day 2 was all about Pro Qualifying! It was nice to get some sleep after the long day Friday, most of the riders are all staying at a nearby youth hostel which is really close to the contest site. Bike Days is the largest bike festival in Switzerland, plenty of people here on all kinds of bikes, Mtb, Trails, Roadbikes, and plenty more. So nice to be here and see bikes everywhere!
That’s a wrap on Pro qualifiers, 29 riders competed today in Solothurn, Switzerland for a place in the ten man final tomorrow afternoon. Congratulations to Moto Sasaki and Matthias Dandois for the joint top spot. And congratulations to everyone that made finals, which is an achievement in itself! Look for the day 2 updates tomorrow morning…
Sietse van Berkel announced on Instagram this morning that he is now riding for JungleRider. Congratulations Sietse, I must say this is well deserved, here’s what he had to say.
“I’m happy to announce I will be a part of the Jungle Rider team! An honour to be riding for a company which represent BMX to me: enjoy riding and do your one thing.
Founded by Mr Kuoppa, with quality products and a great team. I’m looking forward to ride, travel and have good times with the Jungle Riders. Welcome video coming soon.”
Brian Tunney gives a lil’ insight into this 20 Hitchiker Juggler clip: “2010: Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J affected my riding on many levels. I think most importantly though, the wind traveling from the West towards the Hudson River, along with a slight slant in the parking lot, pushed me to ride in a straight line towards the direction of NYC. After struggling against the wind and the slant for months, I decided to work with it instead of against, and it changed the course of my riding for the better. This string of 20 jugglers was a small result of that decision. End passionate BMX rant.”
Last night the organisers threw down 200 Swiss Francs for a fun contest, “Battle of the Nations” it was a good chance for the riders to get warmed up for this weekends contest and have a good time too! The final battle with Team France vs Team Japan was so fun to watch, party atmosphere with the crowd deciding the winner. Double routines, riders throwing down hammers. This event had a lil’ of everything, so good to watch! Stay tuned for more updates as I run through day 2 at Bike Days later on, qualifying is going down today at 3pm, riders are just getting warmed up in the main arena.

It’s a been a long day for me here on day 1 of the 2015 Bike Days contest in Solothurn, Switzerland. Like I did for the BITR contest in November, I wanted to do do daily updates kind of like in diary form of each of my days here at Round 1 of the 2015 World Circuit.
One of the best things about flatland, is the friendships you make travelling around country to country hitting different contests. Dan Hennig and James McGraw kindly picked me up from Zurich airport this morning for the Bike days contest after a 3am start for me to get to London Gatwick, the flight at least was a short one at 1 hour 15 minutes.
Upon arriving we went back to Dan’s apartment, we met up with Kevin Nikulski, Dustyn Alt, and Camilo Gutierrez chilling before we made the hour trip to Solothurn.
I also discovered the riding spot Dan films a lot of his videos from is indeed below his apartment block, dialled!
The Switzerland countryside is beautiful, so much green land, and mountain back drops. I joked with James McGraw this was the real Battle in the Rockies, as when I arrived in Colorado last year none of us could see the mountains.
Stylish new edit from one of France’s best, Fabien Stephan kills the front wheel! I know he did it before, but I do really like the no handed fork five at around the 1:42 mark! Get on this!
If you missed this comprehensive edit the first time round, grab a cuppa and enjoy Shintro Misawa and a solid 26:25 of footage! Even if you have seen this, it’s certainly worth a rewatch!
Chad Degroot breaks this one down: “The jams are getting more regular in Orlando. Lots of riders turning out to just chill, talk some shit, try some tricks, share stories, and ride with no pressure. Almost a flatland reunion with open arms for whoever wants to attend. These are getting more frequent since were all working out our schedules with work and kids so we have some free time to ride. Saturdays seem to be working out specially with a spot like this at a church. Never a problem and were keeping to ourselves just using the pavement for a quick session. Can’t go wrong with a super smooth, grippy, and long flowing parking lot with shade after 5pm.”
