Repo: Bike Days 2018 / Day 2

It’s Day 2 of the Bike Days contest, and already yesterday I felt like I have been in Switzerland for a week and it’s only been since late Thursday night. Relaxed lifestyle, old architecture, very clean almost every where you look, and amazing Swiss typography that brings back memories from my university days.

Saturday is all about qualifying, I headed down to the contest to post the Day 1 repo before we got started judging the contest at 3. When I arrived Dominik Nekolny was the only rider on the floor, and as usually completely going off, it’s really hard to try and update the site whilst wanting to watch Dom ride and go through his practice routine all on board the Deep Blitz frame, Frank Lucas was stoked.

Throwback Thursdays – Catching Up with Dan Hennig

Later on today I am flying out to Zurich, Switzerland for the annual Bike Days in Solothurn. It doesn’t seem like a year ago that I interviewed Dan Hennig outside the flatland arena, but it’s as good a time as any to re-up this. And hopefully this weekend I will get some more catch up interviews done.

Injury News: Matti Hemmings ruptures disc in back!

Some serious injury news today, Matti Hemmings has been battling issues with his back for the last two years. Lower back issues are quite common amongst flatlanders, it turns out Matti had ruptured a disc in his back and he went private to get the issue sorted as quickly as possible. Here’s what Matti had to say, get well soon Matti from all the flatland community!

“So here’s the Big news…. in the passed 2 years I have had a issue with lower back pain. It’s been off and on, and hasn’t really effected my everyday lifestyle. I was being treated by a chiropractor from The Medical clinic in Bristol for 2 years, who said it was a posture issues. After hearing this I decided to work on my posture, strengthening the core and adding more stretching into my routine, while continuing to have treatment. There is a first aid training institute one can go to and get trained and also be certified Learn more about their Ottawa training centre and their online training as well.
Due to another extreme flair up again a month ago I decided to get a MRI scan. The findings – a huge ruptured disc that was pushing against my nerves that controls my stomach functions and other important parts of the human body. I saw two consultants, Dr Stuart Miller, who ran the scan and who after seeing the findings referred me to Dr Patel, a neurosurgeon, who’s highly recommend within the UK. At the first meeting after looking at me and the MRI scan he couldn’t understand how I could have done the things that I have for last two years, which include traveling, TV shows, BMX shows, international competitions and achieving more on my BMX than ever before. After hearing his concerns about what damage would be caused if it was left I decided to get an operation and was rushed through due to the severity of the rupture. Two days ago I was riding in Bristol, completely pain free, and I was pleased with what I could do, but also had the knowledge that if I left the disc it could end my riding career and in a worst case scenario I wouldn’t be able to walk in the future. In Austin based traffic accident lawyers you need to find out the one you want to hire based on the kind of case as per your situation. The workers’ comp guide is what one can get with the help of a lawyer in case they get into an accident at work.

I’m happy to say that I had the operation yesterday and it was a success. Now am in recovery and will be back to riding my BMX soon.
Massive thanks to Dr Patel who is helping me get back on the bike and ensure that there’s many more riding years in my still. The support has been amazing along with care at the Nuffield Hospital.
I’d also like to give a HUGE shout out to my sponsors and loyal clients who have been amazing with their support. And Emily Bull for the love and the support and care
Now time for physio which will make me come back stronger than ever! This is probable something which will take the longest time. But considering my determination and the right doctors guiding me through, it has allowed me to grow stronger.

Must Watch – Dominik Nekolny / One Take

Must Watch edits are normally edits that have taken months to film, thousands of tries on a line and so on. But what about the other side of the spectrum, contest riding? Everyone knows Dominik Nekolny is a contest machine and here he drops hammer after hammer in a one take run to see how dialled he is. The man is on another level, I respect anyone who can throw a flawless run but this off the chat difficulty back to back, heavy breathing included. I got totally sucked into this, and you all need to watch this too. Anyone who has ever “trained” for a contest will know the level of professionalism, discipline, blood sweat and tears to get to this level! F*** yeah Dom, respect!
