Kip’s description covers all…
“We caught up with Dizz and asked him about his early BMX career, the first time he saw freestyle, building his first wedge ramp, riding for the Gork Trick Team, his heavy metal persona, creating upside down flatland tricks, riding and partying on the CW summer tours, vanishing from the sport, dealing with addiction, getting back on his BMX bike in 2009 for an art show, getting inducted into the BMX Hall Of Fame, and what he’s doing now. The fact is, there’s never been another rider like Dizz in BMX…. and there probably never will be! So get comfortable, crank up your speakers, and get to know the man, the myth, the BMX legend, King of the short ramp… Dizz Hicks!
Must Watch – Kio Hayakawa / Welcome to Colony BMX
Much like Nick Watts, Kio Hayakawa is on fire! It really is hard to keep up with the instagram updates, his amazing full part on Landscapes 3 and now this amazing Welcome to Colony BMX part!
So many creative bangers in this one from the opening line with a switch foot ice cream pulled into switch foot forward g- roll jump to two footed backyard half turbine jump to pedals that begins at the 00:03 mark! So progressive!
The very next line Kio further develops the two footed backyard jump, now jumping out with the body varial to peg wheelie (00:36) back into an ice cream line. This kid is pushing things hard right now!
The fourth and last line play with a. similar concept, pivot into two footed pedal ice cream ucchie flip to mega spin pivot ice cream pivot blender walk round out! Wow, Kio puts himself right up with fellow Japanese shredders, Yoehi Uchino, the Katagiri brothers and like the Katagiri brothers, so young and the future is so bright. Great pick from Colony to join the team, will he conquer the international contest circuit, only time will tell….
Dez Maarsen – Insta Ammo
Instagram edits seem to be on the rise this year, Dez Maarsen has a huge back of tricks and great depth in front and back wheel riding. The halfhiker 360 pressure flip to halfpacker line at 5:52 is a classic from Dez, this one isa. good watch start to finish!
Chad Degroot – Rainy Day Garage Session
Nice to see an edit out of Deco’s head honcho Chad Degroot this morning, from the backwards wheelie balancing knee on the seat (kneelie?) and the bar flip hang 10 to messiah. Really enjoyed this short edit, good stuff from Chad.
James White – Raw Lines
Raw footage from James White’s session yesterday filmed by Lincoln Blacksley, love the tyre slide switch foot steam move at 00:42!
Nick Watts – October 19th
You can’t stop Nick Watts at the moment, three edits already since Landscapes 3 dropped! So much as always to take in with Nick’s riding, a lot of details to enjoy in this one. And a great start to our week here on Flatmattersonline!
Review: Landscapes 3
Review: Effraim.
I am sure I write this every time I review a video, I feel it’s important to say it without trying to sound like a broken record. It really is a brave move to make an online video these days, especially if you are charging for it online. It’s quite common in skateboarding, but hasn’t filtered over to flatland really.
Landscapes 3 comes in at 1 hour 12 minutes long, I can’t even imagine how much working time that is for the creator, Stewart Munro putting all the pieces together, selecting riders going back and forth with riders gathering footage, picking the music to fit each rider, the list goes on.
Throwback Thursdays – Alexis Desolneux / Clandé
For this weeks Throwback Thursday, we have a nice treat from the archives that many of us have never seen. As Alexis Desolneux continues to document his video parts throughout his riding career, he just dropped this “Clandé” part from 1997.
Clandé Troupe was a little group of friends, BMXers and skateboarders who made videos during the late 90’s, they invited Alexis to be a part of their project. Enjoy this one where you can begin to see how Alexis started to develop his style….
Bruno Zebu – Advanced Pivotry
Short but oh so sweet clip out of one of Brazil’s finest, Bruno Zebu delivers a real gem right here. Watch this one!
