Old School Sundays with Frankie Arnwine
I hope you all enjoyed the Pete Brandt interview, I took the day off updating yesterday so today let’s get back on the normal update routine here at Flatmattersonline HQ. Frankie Arnwine was name I used to see a lot in the magazines back in the 80’s, stoked to come across this footage from 1988 at what looks like a local AFA contest in Columbus Ohio. And also once again, big up the Freestyle BMX Junkies youtube page, pretty much the best OLD School flatland channel on the net.
Old School Sundays with Ruben Castillo
Tomorrow I head out to California for the One Love Jam, so for this week’s OSS I go back to cali and the infamous Velodrome contest. 1988 to be exact, and Ruben Castillo’s run from the AFA masters in Carson, California. Style for miles.

Before we get into the awards later on today, let’s go back! Check this Old school flatland contest on the streets of Brooklyn. From the Summer of 1988. The highlight is a great run by Ross Smith at the 10:35 mark, and all plenty more Ross footage in the post contest riding from the 16:10 mark. Other riders: Rich Vasquez, Chris Wilkes, and more.
1993 BS Contest @ Scrap
1993 BS Contest @ Scrap from Adam Guild on Vimeo.
Happy New Year everyone!
Starting 2019 with a belter from the archives courtesy of Adam Guild. The 1993 BS Contest at Scrap Skatepark in Chicago, USA. The edit starts out with some great park footage from Dave Mirra RIP, Dennis McCoy and Jay Miron. The flatland kicks in at the 2:55 mark with the likes of Chase Gouin, Chad Degroot, Day Smith, Edgar Plascencia and Ross Smith. The final line by Ross is still to this day absolutely ridiculous, well worth a watch!
What a great start to 2019!
Hiroshi Uehara – Japan Cup / 1st Place Expert

Old School Sundays with Robert Peterson / Did he invent scuffing?
Bold title I know, but take a look at this weeks OSS with Curb Dog Robert Peterson! At 4:06 Rob does a backwards squeakers on/wheelchair whatever you care to call it? No one else at this 1986 AFA contest in Columbus Ohio was scuffing according to Danny Sirkin who was there at the contest. As far as I know and Danny knows, no one ever gave Robert credit, let’s discuss this one….
Throwback Thursdays – 1993 Shimersville, PA BS Contest
1993 Shimersville, PA BS Contest from Adam Guild on Vimeo.
What a week here on Flatmattersonline, so many amazing edits and also some great stuff from the flatland archives. And today, we have another belter from Adam Guild. I recall having a video tape of this contest back in the day from Armen Djerrahian, anyway today it is great to see all this footage together from the 1993 Shimersville, PA BS Contest featuring Brian Tunney, Bill Nitschke, Gabe Weed, Dennis McCoy, Chad Degroot, and Chase Gouin. Thank you Adam for the upload and trip down memory lane…
Malaysia BMX Trip / Rider vs Gravity Contest
Paulo Gepulango recently made the trip from the Philippines to Malaysia for the Rider vs Gravity contest. This contest by the look of it has the feel of KOG back in the day. Enjoyed watching this one and you may well do too, flatland is alive and well in Malaysia!
