Who remembers when this Yuki Itoh “Welcome to Far East Cycles” edit dropped in September 2016?… I met Yuki at Five Hiroshima, sadly he was there filming not riding. Is Yuki still riding?
Everything about this Yuki Itoh edit ruled and still rules four years on.
Riding wise, the riding and the intricate switches were pretty much all groundbreaking for the time. Here are some of my personal highlights:
– The opposite turbine steam boat ride in flip flip to yammer style backwards spinning xft steam step on fork back to steam turbine to xft fork spinning steam to opposite xft steam flip steam opposite side step into spinning cliff at 1:06! Are you following all that? Yuki’s style is so nimble around the bike, amazing!
– At 2:11 the turbine teakettle to spinning xft crack pivot spinning hang ten pivot opposite one footed spinning crack step over backwards facing one footed spinning ck jump to halfpacker pivot xft backwards spinning xft stream pivot steam to x handed spinning half hiker! Mind blown!
– The last line at 3:03! I will leave that one to you!
Props to Takuya Higa also for the camerawork, this edit makes me want to ride so bad! Job done! Respect Yuki, liquid flatland at it’s finest!!
With the successful NASA ISS Space X Shuttle launch this past weekend, who better to launch into the 28th episode of the Flatmattersonline Exclusive than Mr NASA himself, Art Thomason!
Art is a long time Hoffman Bikes rider, and continues to progress his brakeless riding style at his riding spot at home in Texas.
Art tears this cliffhanger line a new one, with over a minute action packed switches and direction changes.. Really enjoyed this one, thank you Art for contributing to the culture.
The Covid 19 pandemic has not slowed down York Uno’s productivity at all, arguably on fire more than ever with daily uploads! And today, we are a great update featuring Yoshihiro Shinde & Minato Sato & Riku Shinde, time to grab a cuppa and enjoy this treat from Japan!
Sponsorship hook ups is not something we have seen much of in 2020, good to see Four Pegs BMX in Austria hooking up a grass roots riders from across the globe.
Reece Thomson from Edinburgh came through with this feel good welcome to Four Pegs part! Congratulations Reece on the hook up, looking forward to seeing more from him in the future.
Lindsey La’akea Bode comes through with a solid 27th Flatmattersonline exclusive, half cab to stemlash flowing into a whole bunch of fast stem-a-rangs. Big thanks to Lindsey for stepping up, and filming this one along with Bobby Carter who filmed this episode. What a location to film at too!
Great response to my shoutout for more clips after the 26th episode, four riders have stepped up to contribute. So we will make to episode 30 without missing a beat!
Kip Williamson over at Master Blaster Planet filmed a couple of awesome switch foot forwards Karl lines with one of fastest riders on the planet, Marcos de Jesus. And the opening slow-mo captures this so well.
Great highlights edit from the King of Ground contest in Asakuso, japan featuring a ton of good riding from the likes of York Uno, Jesse Puente, Kotaro Tanaka, Kappa, Ryoji Yammamoto and many more. Well worth a watch.
RL Osborn’s return to flatland is well documented all over social media, today when I was thinking about who I should feature. After a few searches, I came across this blast from the past that sealed the deal. RL’s final run from the AFA Masters at the Velodrome in 1987. The cross bar double boomerang at 5:14 is still dope to this day, his run starts at 2:50 later an interview with the man himself.
Lockdown slowly looks to be easing, and producing exclusive content for the site has helped me stay active during these difficult times. Last times is intended to be a quick and easy read, and I am picking riders I feel deserve some coverage. Next up is French shredder, Maxime Cassagne! Read on….

“Second Printing Forever” of Moon Babes of Bicycle City (4/3/20)
The first 2-Hip Meet the Street BMX contest that Ron Wilkerson held in Southern California on 4/30/88 is a significant event that Mike Daily builds upon in Moon Babes of Bicycle City. The book starts on Friday, 10/11/19, with Rodderick Moon and Mick O’Grady pedaling Rodd’s bikecar replica of the ’76 Chrysler Cordoba that Ron W had at the contest.
Rodd and Mick are pedaling the bikecar from Cavern City Air Terminal in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Bicycle City, where cars have been outlawed and the terrain is a world like no other. Rodd Moon and his wife Chatauqua run a bike shop there called Moon Babes Retire Bikes.
Rodd’s prototype “2020 BikeCardoba” is primer grey in the opening scenes. It’s prepped to be duct taped, spray painted, and thrashed as an obstacle on Saturday, 10/12/19.
Sunday, 10/13/19, is a Full Moon.
Novel.
The First Printing of only 100 copies was a pocket-size paperback that readers received by Friday, 10/11/19–the exact date of the novel’s opening scenes. MBoBC Bike Club Members received their copies (and limited edition merch extras including poster prints of the 2-Hip Cordoba, stacks of stickers, and much more) direct from the author in time to read the book in “real time” if they chose to do so.
A modern day monument to BMX Freestyle culture and innovative fiction, this “Second Printing Forever” (4/3/20) of Mike Daily’s new novel Moon Babes of Bicycle City is a remastered edition that features a Foreword by Ron W, an Afterword by Matt D’Angelo, and a timeline tracking reader-participation milestones.

“Moon Babes of Bicycle City, the new book by Mike Daily is being delivered to mailboxes worldwide!”–Steve Brothers, BMX Society
“It’s a novel. A few hours’ read. What’s it like? Imagine hanging out with your crew and meeting other crews. Road trip. New town–locals’ rules. All the stuff you say is a mash-up of puns, one-ups, and references to obscure bike parts or magazine captions. Total linguistic freestyle. Tricking every surface and interaction. That’s what it’s like to read this.”–Scuffington Post
“As an independent project this is executed at a high level (consistent with all of Daily’s work). It’s written with style, edited with integrity and designed with intent. If you want to get a taste of what BMX was like in the fictionalized sun baked bicycle-powered old school, this is a feast. I think what makes it cool and shelf-worthy is its complete originality.”–Mark Lewman
“Nowhere. And I mean nowhere! Will you ever hear anything like this. A story, using BMX word play, strung together in a completely surreal yet weirdly familiar way. At times poetic, at others it’s just flat out freaky. This had me smiling one second then in awe of word play the next, all the while being completely immersed in this strange tale.”–James White
“This book is dope. You should cop it.”–Bobby Loveless
