Benjamin Hudson leaves Far East Cycles!

After taking a few days off working on the site, I am a bit late to the party with the news that Benjamin Hudson has left Far East Cycles, sounds like Benjamin has something lined up, who’s he going to be riding for the 2020 season? It’s a good time to watch his Welcome to FEC part!

Fareast Cycles Welcomes Benjamin Hudson to the Team from IGI BMX on Vimeo.

“It’s been great 6 years as a FEC rider and i’m still very thankful for the opportunities they gave me like designing my own parts and the fact that they trusted in me from the beginning in China 2014 because as a young rider this really gives you confidence. I love the fact that they’ve been innovating with new materials and designs, for now we just have different visions and thats the reason why im leaving, but im sure they will keep surprising the scene with new ideas. By the way! If you still dont know the difference FEC and IGI are different companies and im still riding for IGI. Thank you Ashao and Dub for the support.”

Episode 7: Flatmattersonline exclusives with Sebastian Grubinger

The Flatmattersonline exclusives are becoming a thing, and Heresy rider Sebastian Grubinger just came through with a belter!

Sebastian’s riding always commands my attention, whether it is a must watch video part or a too good for Instagram clip. His riding is always fresh, and I love that he put in some work into getting this clip done for episode 7, (watch the failed attempts, the fact he shows the falls is awesome!)…
We went back and forth discussing the bar flip ride-out, as I was trying the bar backwards hang 5 to bar flip out. I got injured whilst Sebastian was trying to get this clip done, and as you can see he makes it look easy and not only that adds in an awesome ride-in that flows so well with rideout, and middle part of the line before getting to the rideout is so technical. The whole line together like that is ridiculous, and something we have come to expect from one of the best video riders in the game!

Thanks Sebastian for contributing towards the series, episode 7 is in the bag.

The response since I announced the Flatmattersonline exclusive clip will be a year award has been amazing, and already a few heads are working heavy clips for future episodes.
Who’s got next weeks clip? Episode 8 is on the horizon, same time next week….

Decade of Flatland: 2010/2020 Part 4

Intro/Questions: Effraim.

As we reach the final part of my Decade of Flatland article, the opinions are nicely varied. Opinions are just that, opinions (we all have one)…., we are at a healthy point in the progression of flatland where new tricks are shown almost weekly on instagram, and pretty much periodically, via video parts that are shown on the site.
For me, it doesn’t matter about your bike set up, brakes or brakeless. What matters is that your out there doing it, and living the culture of flatland and contributing something. For this final part I catch up with the boss Martti Kuoppa, Lee Musselwhite, and Jean William Prevost. All three riders, have massively contributed to the artform side of flatland, video parts, contests, and also the industry side of things too. Grab a cuppa, and enjoy this final part…

Episode 5: Flatmattersonline Exclusives with Chris Vasileiou

Welcome back!

As I said last week, the Flatmattersonline exclusive clips are building really well. When I started these clips back up in January whilst I was out in SF with Pete Brandt, I was honestly thinking I would get a couple of clips in, and there would be a dry patch with some weeks without content. So far, touch wood, I am five weeks into doing these exclusives again with no missed weeks at all!

These clips are for you, to document share and progress is all about motivating not only yourself, but those around you. Chris Vasileiou, like fellow Greek shredder, George Manos came through with a clip without being asked. These clips are really motivating me, and I hope you at home are getting something out of them. Chris looks like he’s riding at home, such a crazy looking spot to have, and the line he does looks like it’s over when he gets the the front scuff vadar move and then it switches back to frame stand tomahawk, via a move that was called a Scarlo Squeak back in the day.

Thanks to Chris for stepping up for episode 5, who’s got the next clip? Same time next week, or have I jinxed it and there will be a quiet week…..

Decade of Flatland: 2010/2020 / Part 3

Intro/Article: Effraim.

I have had a great response to the first couple of parts to this Decade of Flatland article I have been sharing over the past of couple of weeks whether comments on the site or private messages. This week for Part 3, I catch up with Heresy rider and the man that made coin the phrase “Too good for instagram” Sebastian Grubinger, the godfather of UK Flatland, James White, and the current Women’s UCI World Champion Irina Sadovnik. It’s great and refreshing for my perspective to hear all the different viewpoints on the state of modern day flatland. Grab a cuppa, and enjoy this one!

Pegruary Qualifying: IGIFLATBMX Instagram Contest

Dub and the IGI Flat BMX crew have been putting in work! If you are not on instagram, you are in for a treat watching the top 13 qualifiers not 12 (there was a tie). If the qualfying clips are anything to go by, the finals are going to go off!! Thanks to Dub for sharing this for everyone that isn’t on instagram. Congratulations once again to Owen Bohn taking the win….

Must Watch: Jean William Prevost / NO MAN’S LAND

Dub was out in Valencia, Spain a couple of weeks ago, and made great use of time riding at one of the most picturesque riding spots I have ever seen. It’s felt like a while since a “Must Watch” edit on the site, and Dub well and truly breaks down the firewall.

Great editing, and the music by Movenchy really compliments his amazing riding. Ah yes the riding…. everything is a standout in this one. But, in particular the ender I am sure will be a contender for line of the year already, and it’s still February.

The spinning inside switch-b undertaker to pedal junkyard turbine line that begins around 1:29, just keeps getting more and more complex, and I especially loved the details of the drop down from pedal junkyard to right footed peg wheelie with no sketch at all, and then line builds again. I am sure we will all be watching this one over and over, edit of the year so far without a doubt! Thanks Dub for this belter! Today is a good day!
