York Uno: How to Top Tube Elephant Glide

York Uno is killing the flatland how-to game, and is dropping how-to’s pretty much daily. It’s hard to keep up, I would call this move a top tube backwards squeaker… never mind tricks have different names across the globe…. Thank you York for contributing on the daily to the new generation of riders.

Episode 19: Flatmattersonline Exclusives with Martin Drazil

It’s about that time, we are fast approaching the 20th episode of the Flatmattersonline exclusives. This has far out weighed my expectations, that began again whilst I was out in San Francisco in January riding with Pete Brandt.
Martin Drazil from Prague, stepped up for the 19th episode, dropping an awesome line that utilises great use of brakes and brakeless techniques.
Thanks Martin for contributing.

Who’s got the 20th exclusive? We shall see on Sunday, 5pm GMT!

HERESY ZEPHYR

HERESY ZEPHYR

As you can imagine, making our own tire is a dream come true and today we are so happy to present you the ZEPHYR.
Our design process started from a « blank page » with two questions : what tire would we like to ride considering the wide spectrum of preferences among the team, and what tire would contribute to BMX flatland in general as an « open » progressive tire created for any style of riding and any surface. A fast, modern tire with a slick feeling as you roll, yet foot friendly and without any real break-in time as no one likes to waste even just one session on adapting to a new tire. On top of that, even though we were aiming at high quality, it was essential for us to keep it affordable.

Needless to say, that didn’t sound easy at all. But it also felt like the most meaningful way to design this tire, so research was on…
The answer to that equation was found in a balanced combination of a hard compound slick and low profile with a multiple lines pattern for precise foot control. Floor contact feels direct and natural, easy to figure out. Same with foot contact, there is no surprise. The tire doesn’t feel like it’s interfering with what you want to do, instead you forget it’s there.
But enough of these big words. We love the ZEPHYR and hope you will too.

The ZEPHYR will first be available in 1.90’’ size, black, by the end of August, both in wire bead and kevlar versions, at a reasonable price we would ourselves be willing to pay…
1.75’’ will be next.

Have fun,
– Alexis

Wire bead €28,00

Episode 18: Flatmattersonline Exclusives with Omari Cato

Accidentally deleted Omari’s clip having trouble with uploading episode 19. Apolgises to Omari, clip is back up now…

The response to posting Flatmattersonline exclusives twice a week has been absolutely amazing! Thank you all so much for keeping this going during this difficult time for all of us… As we approach 20 episodes, without missing a beat so far, Omari Cato came through with episode 18!

I have no idea what’s going on with these back wheel riders grabbing the tyre, but I like it, and Omari drops something really fresh here!

Thank you Omari for contributing towards the culture.

Who’s got the next clip?

Old School Sundays with Dave Mirra R.I.P

I just come across this legendary footage from the archives, many of us know Dave Mirra will forever go down as one of the greatest to do it. New School heads may not realise Dave had heavy roots in flatland, check out these two amazing runs from the 1988 AFA Masters in Wayne, NJ, where Dave took first place in 14 Expert. Thank you East Coast Destruction BMX for uploading this!

R.I.P. Dave Mirra.
