As I took my first viewing of Peter Olsen’s new “Ritual” edit, my mind was completely blown. How do I write about this I pondered to myself… It speaks volumes of how good this edit is, that it took me 3-4 views to truly digest what he was doing.
“Ritual” fuses together everything I love about flatland, the solitude feeling of the way in the way was filmed.
The insane riding level of untouched lines with years of depth going into each line with a liquid like effortless flow, the vibe of the edit that matches the Heresy brand direction, this edit screams “this is flatland at it’s very finest!”.
I would normally do a detailed description on this edit, but let’s change things up and discuss this one in depth in the comments section. Peter Olsen, Heresy BMX, filmers, Sevisual take a long bow, this is as good as it gets!!
Pure gold from the archives right here, I haven’t watched this one in years. Looking forward to sitting down with a cuppa and watching this gem courtesy of the Snakebite BMX! Highrollers 6 is not to be missed, great soundtrack and great riding from Canadian shredders, Jason Brown R.I.P, Jamie Macintosh, Andrew Paris and more mixed in with straight up BMX!
Loving all the archived footage that is now appearing online years on, case in point right here with Nick Watt’s section from the Australian video, Pim 5.
Getting back to updates, after taking a few days off to let the James White video breath a little bit, starting off with Lee Musselwhite who just uploaded his amazing Master of Creavity final submission to his YouTube channel. Worth a watch again for sure….
As James White celebrates his 50th birthday, he does in it style with this amazing retrospective mix of his riding career so far, including input from the likes of Pete Brandt, Lincoln Blacksley, Amos Burke, Jesse Puente, Chase Gouin, Jason Forde, and many more. I am on the third watch now, and notice different things within his edit that had me stoked, and had me crying with laughter, straight up Flatland at it’s best!

One of my favourite aspects of running Flatmattersonline, is definitely working on interviews and learning more about riders across the globe. More recently, I started to wonder about flipping that on it’s head, and finding out about flatland from an industry perspective.
Attila Toth runs Four Pegs BMX, and I was interested how he runs a flatland business in such difficult times. This is a lengthy interview, so grab a cuppa and enjoy some flatland industry talk….
His DIY aesthetic to running his own Flatland business really struck a chord with me. I wanted to know more, and rather than a rider interview, this goes more into the industry side of things even though of course Attila rides. As a second lockdown just hit here in the UK, it’s time to publish this interview and let the world know more about Four Pegs BMX and Attila Toth!
What’s up everyone?
It’s been a minute since a fresh Flatmattersonline exclusive, and today we bring it back in style with one of the best to do it… Hoffman Bikes very own Matt Wilhelm!!
This exclusive kills two birds with one stone so to speak, its been a while since I have seen any Matt Wilhelm footage. Whilst we were judging the AFA Dream run contest , it came up in conversation that Matt was down to film an episode, and today he drops a brand new line that I have never seen before.
Ice Cream turbines on the bottom bracket, and a BB Ice Cream bike flip out in brakeless style that Matt suits completely. Hell yeah!!!
Thank you Matt for contributing, whose got episode 60?
Whilst BSD is not a flatland brand so to speak, James White and Amos Burke have been using this frames and products for a good while now. Yesterday, BSD launched “the Revolution Hub” and this certainly looks like it would work well for flatland. Official word below…
Introducing the new BSD Revolution hub…
A freecoaster hub that feels like a cassette hub, weighs the same as a cassette hub, has a pedal gap like a cassette hub and sounds like a cassette hub. Using the Planetary clutch system.
Hub features:
• 30% lighter than conventional freecoaster hubs.
• No gap when pedalling forward.
• Eradicates unwanted engagement on rollbacks.
• Feels and sounds like a cassette hub.
• No need for oversized hub bearings due to low axial load.
• Supertough hollow male 14mm chromo axle.
• BSD hubguards included.
I posted this promo for the new Heresy Zephyr tyre a few days ago on instagram, I am hearing lots of great things about this product. And Sebastian Grubinger throws down a heavy back wheel line for this, with Sevisual on the editing, you will not want to miss.
Ever wonder what happened to Seppl Pospischil? I’ve been curious a bunch of times when I see random clips pop up time to time from the early 2000 era. Seppl explains all below, great to see him riding and more importantly, enjoying himself…
“In fact, the last three years of riding BMX have been an emotional roller coaster. I’ve had back problems for a long time (who doesn’t have them) and a hip damage in between, which fortunately has healed. At the beginning of 2020 I destroyed my shoulder after I was finally fit again with my back. I used the break to clean up my archive and found various unpublished material (180+ clips!). In addition, I had to realize that I’m about to celebrate my 25th BMX anniversary in the BMX year 2020. So what could be more obvious than making a video out of the material?
To see the thing finished now has a “treat”. Serious flatland riding has unfortunately not been possible for a long time. But my back allowed me to cruise around in skateparks and on pumptracks. Often, against better knowledge, my ego came through, which was promptly acknowledged with lumbago. You just have to listen to your body more and switch to vacation mode if necessary. I had to learn that first. My kids and my wife are mainly responsible for the good vibes in the video. They forced me in front of the camera on our trips, even if I sometimes didn’t want to. For that a big THANK YOU and therefore also the home video character in one place or another 😉
Many thanks also go to SIBMX / Bodo Hellwig for 17 years of excellent support. And I would also like to thank Ali from Moto for the pedals and the kunstform BMX Shop for everything else.
Somehow this video comes full circle. 25 years ago I started BMX as a youngster in the skate park, now I’m back with my two boys. Let’s see what the future will bring … I’m definitely up for it!
