We are back on the road towards 100 episodes of the Flatmattersonline exclusives, today London Bikes CEO, Will Redd comes through with Episode 51!
Over the last five or so years, I have been lucky enough to get to see Will ride in person at the Battle in the Rockies contest in Colorado. Will is one of the most skilled riders in the game, such a strength in depth to what he’s doing on a 20 inch bike.
And he comes through right here with a amazing twist on the forward side glide, an old school flatland trick comes with a new school twist and that’s what freestyle is all about!
Thanks Will for contributing, whose got episode 52?
It’s a good day for content today, if you watched Doses X V1.0 it’s time to watch part 2 of the Doses project put together by Adam Guild.
Featuring Bobby Carter, Thiago BB, Robert Victoria, Adam Guild, Lindsey Bode, Dax Wolford, Juan Carlos Moronta, Matt Thomas, Anthony Schneidewind, Scott Hagnas, Malte Orth, Francis Chase Santos, Sean Porter, Juan Carlos Arracera, Frank Ruiz, Rosey Taylor,
Mark Harris, Rodney Williams.
We made it, 50 episodes of the Flatmattersonline exclusives! Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards the series that has helped inspire us all, particularly during the lockdown period.
When I started the FM exclusives again with episode 1 dropping on January 23rd, I was out in San Francisco and had the idea to start the series with Pete Brandt. I never thought we would be still doing these exclusives at 50 episodes, but now the exclusives in my opinion have become a staple of the site.
The 50th episode took a few twists and turns with people offering, but work commitments getting in the way. This however, worked out really well, Pete Brandt was the first exclusive and this year celebrated his 50th birthday, and still shows no signs of slowing down at all.
One of the new generation of pros to come out of the US, Austin Luberda from St Louis, Missouri came through with the elusive clip. I found it quite fitting that we start a new chapter with the new generation. Austin comes through with an absolutely hammer line, the gliding junkyard blindside pivot is absolutely amazing and he keeps the pace going throughout. Austin is a real name to look out for, I hope he can make a mark into the international contest scene at some point. Thank you Austin for stepping up. Whose got episode 51? Hopefully dropping Sunday….
Let me finish by saying…These clips have reached all generations of flatlanders, and that is the real beauty of doing these. Seeing all the different styles come through and inspire us all, thank you everyone who has stepped up once again….
Where do you start? We all know Matthias Dandois is one of the most consistent contest riders to ever do it on a 20 inch bicycle.
What hit me first with this project, after all Matthias’ daily work duties for his sponsors, it’s refreshing that he keeps the hardcore sessions with moves he’s worked on for hours on a tripod setting to his personal account. This feels like it’s for the hardcore fans, I guess is what I am trying to say.
Last week, I was lucky enough to get a first look before the edit dropped a week later. You get a sense of what is to come, and I always wonder which of these moves will make it to the contest floor, it’s kinda fun trying to guess…
Matthias’ is always on point with music selection, and the MorriƱa Baiuca track definitely sets the tone for this edit, and I liked how these lines were not drawn out. Everything pretty much is to the point, whereas his contest runs contains longer lines. Good to see that difference for sure.
When you are that consistent, what can you throw when you try something for three hours?
Filmed over the past 8 months in New York, Paris, Geneva and Saint Raphael. As always with Must Watch edits here are some of my personal highlights:
00:51: Shove-it plasticman line, the Plasticman gets done a lot in flatland these days. Nice to see a new touch to a overdone trick. And when something is done a lot that’s hard to do..
** Flat Snitches would say it’s a shove-it no handed switch footed hang 5 however…
1:03: No handed spinning halfpacker to spinning hitch line!
3:05: Backwards no handed spinning hitch, again I like how this was left on it’s own. Straight to the point!
3:37: One handed seat grab two footed backyard pivot one handed switch foot mega spin out.
4:48: Crackpacker Double boomerang bar scoot to steam!
5:36: Rollback body varial to pendulum halfpacker!
Go watch this one, if you aren’t already. What was your favourite line? Let’s discuss this one. Time to go riding…
We are getting so close to the elusive 50th episode!!! UK rider, Josh Briars came through with a lovely flowing whiplash to hitchhiker line ending with what I call the Degroot undertaker. Chad if you are reading/watching this, what do you call that trick?
Josh filmed this line at the Millennium Square spot in Bristol, UK yesterday, so this is literally hot off the presses. Josh celebrated his birthday yesterday to boot, happy birthday Josh!!
Great to see Josh back on his bike after a few injuries.
Thanks Josh for contributing!
Whose got that elusive 50th episode, happy to say that will be dropping Wednesday and its a banger!!
This week the sad news, Park Carter had passed away broke all over social media. Park was way ahead of the time during the 80’s with his riding, and what he brought to the table. I hit up Todd Carter for any Park Carter to do a dedication to the man, and he came back with this absolute gem from the archives, that features an amazing run from Park Carter at the 18:31 mark, and also so much other good footage to boot from the likes of Danny Meng, Ruben Castillo, Bill Neumann, and many many more. Go watch that run from Park, amazing!
We are back on track with the Flatmattersonline exclusives and closing in on 50 episodes… No one better to get this back on track than Stephen Hearn. One of my favourite riders, if you aaren’t familiar with the name.
Check this video part from Create filmed in 2006 (link below), in my opinion one of the best video parts ever. Stephen does not mess around when it comes to trick choice and right here for episode 48 fires out a smooth half hiker around the world back to half hiker and pivots into an opposite xft halfpacker, like I said before not an easy trick/line selection and Stephen makes it look easy.
Enough of my rambling, go watch and show some love. Thanks Stephen for taking the time to contribute.
Congratulations to Erin Fricke who is on quite roll right now, taking the top spot in MOC qualifying and eFise Pro Women in a matter of weeks. The top 4 go through to the finals, check the top 4 entries out below:
Minato Sato from Japan took the top spot in a stacked AM Men class for the eFise qualifying contest, so many good entries in this class. Check the top 3 entries below, finals is going to be great!
