Lookback: December 2015 – The Flatmattersonline 2015 Year end awards

We started the last month of the year with this sick xft pedal turbine mega spin opposite foot decade clip out of Jason Plourde.


On December 2nd, Alberto Moya published this really nice edit from the jam the day after the Com’in Lyon contest a few weeks back featuring Alexis Desolneux, Charles Paty, Fabien Stephan, Alberto Moya, Kevin Jacob, Mates Tucek and Matthieu Bonnecuelle. Definitely worth a watch!


Joel Schallhorn has been progressing a ton since his return from China back to his home in Denver, Colorado. Joel definitely stands out to me as he rides so differently than almost anyone I can think of, in this edit you will see lots of new opposite bar flips, gadget whips variations, and a fun new no footed steam holding the stem (3:57 + backwards variation) that was inspired by Martti Kuoppa at a Tintadome session at BITR last month. Really enjoyed this edit, keep on shredding Joel!

Lookback: April 2015 – The Flatmattersonline 2015 Year end awards

The clocks go forward in April, and the riding level and contest season takes on more momentum as we all get psyched for the summer. What happened in April? Here are some of the highlights as I dig back in the crates at some of the key moments…


Dane Beardsley’s amazing section from Samethingdaily3 is now online mixing up flatland, trails, ditches, concrete parks, street, Dane can do it all! Flatland wise, look out for the No handed backwards death truck line at 2:20, xft shove it mccircle line at 3:47 and a whole lot more! A Good Friday treat for you from Dane Beardsley, pure BMX! A great way to start the month of April!

Battle in the Rockies – Day 2

Yesterday was my first full day in the US, this year we are around an hour away from where the contest is at in Denver at James Mcgraw’s house in Monument, Colorado.
The first part of the day was taken up with airport pick ups, Michael Sommer, Moto Sasaki and Martti Kuoppa all arrived, during the evening we headed for a fun session at James’ Tintadome riding spot which his workplace during the day, riding spot during the night. My body clock was screaming bedtime, so I decided to take the time to shoot some photographs.

If you are following flatmatters on instagram, you will have also seen the distraction training video with James McGraw taking out Joe Cicman with a roll of paper towel, myself, Moto, Michael and Moto were all adjusting to the time change so it was pretty chilled and a good time hanging out and joking with all the riders, check out the photos I shot.
Thanks to Joel Schallhorn for the use of his camera. Today we had to Evolve skatepark in Denver for jam day. Check out a selection of photos I shot below that I feel some up the day quite well! Once again like last year, the vibe is great between the riders, looking forward to riding today! Stay tuned for more updates on FM!

Battle in the Rockies 2015 Day 1

Yesterday I spent the day travelling to Denver, Colorado for the second annual Battle in the Rockies contest via Toronto, Canada. This trip is the beginning of three weeks off work, ending just after Level Vibes. Last year’s BITR was one of the best and most fun events I have ever attended, with the riders all staying at James McGraw’s house, it really did have a great feel and it’s something I will remember forever. Will James ride with his broken ankle?

James picked me up from the airport, and we headed to his workplace/riding spot he calls the Tintadome for a quick session with a few locals. One of my questions was immediately answered, James is riding with a broken ankle, taped up styles, and killed it at his spot considering his ankle.
Martti,Moto and Joe Cicman arrive later on today, Simon O’Brien is already in town for his brothers wedding, Dub and Jason Plourde arrive Thursday! We should be heading over to the contest venue in Denver later today. It’s a lovely day here in the Rockies!Feedback was good last year from my daily updates, so check back for plenty of updates from BITR!

Battle in the Rockies – Battle Zone 2015

New location this year, Evolve Skatepark is the venue for this years BITR!

“Here is a glimpse of the floor for Battle in the Rockies 2015. We will be moving some more of the ramps which will open up a larger area for The Battle Zone.
There will also be two small staging areas for riders on deck to stay warmed up before their runs. Check out this short edit where James McGraw tests the floor out!”

Bike Days 2015 Day 1

It’s a been a long day for me here on day 1 of the 2015 Bike Days contest in Solothurn, Switzerland. Like I did for the BITR contest in November, I wanted to do do daily updates kind of like in diary form of each of my days here at Round 1 of the 2015 World Circuit.

One of the best things about flatland, is the friendships you make travelling around country to country hitting different contests. Dan Hennig and James McGraw kindly picked me up from Zurich airport this morning for the Bike days contest after a 3am start for me to get to London Gatwick, the flight at least was a short one at 1 hour 15 minutes.

Upon arriving we went back to Dan’s apartment, we met up with Kevin Nikulski, Dustyn Alt, and Camilo Gutierrez chilling before we made the hour trip to Solothurn.
I also discovered the riding spot Dan films a lot of his videos from is indeed below his apartment block, dialled!
The Switzerland countryside is beautiful, so much green land, and mountain back drops. I joked with James McGraw this was the real Battle in the Rockies, as when I arrived in Colorado last year none of us could see the mountains.
