Hello everyone,

I dropped the 2016 Flatmattersonline year end awards just a few days ago, thank you to everyone who has already voted.Today I begin the task of going through the entire year and seeing what went down. In order to keep this as concise as possible, I will posting just what has happened in 2016. (In January there were a lot of edits posted from the previous year…)

Heading out to the Battle in the Rockies contest in Colorado!

It’s an early start for me this morning, as I head off to London Heathrow to fly out for the annual Battle in the Rockies contest in Colorado Springs. It seems as good a time as any to re-up this amazing edit from last years contest that Anthony Schneidewind put together featuring great riding from Moto Sasaki, Martti Kuoppa, Jean William Prevost, Jason Plourde, Pete Brandt, Bo Wade, John Yull, James McGraw, Bryan Huffman, Simon O’Brien and many more! Nevertheless, this is certainly worth a rewatch! One of the most important events on the flatland contest calendar, that retains a certain aura year to year when I’m there. Hit play for amazing combos from the likes of Viki Gomez, Martti Kuoppa, Matthias Dandois, Adam Kun, Seppl, Justin Miller (Kickflip backpacker line at 2:28 into his hitch kickflip backpacker!), Chris Bohm, Bram Verhallen (lookout for his Xft 360 Kickflip hitch at 1:34!), Frank Lucas, Kotaro Tanaka, Wolfgang Sauter and Keelan Phillips.

I have been waiting for something like this for a long time, something that digs inside what is flatland, and what can it bring to the individual. Bobby Carter explains a little more, grab a cuppa and enjoy this amazing project!

“After Viki won 2015 BFWC Championship, Viki was asked to make a film with a message for the new generation of riders. The film was shown at the Tokyo Bicycle Film Festival. We only had about 3 weeks to make this film. Martti Kuoppa, Simon O’Brien, Chase Gouin, Chad Degroot, and Scott Powell all scrambled were able to submit footage with their perspectives on flatland. Besides the time crunch, the most challenging and most fun part was digging through the archives of flatland history to pull out some of the best riding put on video from Diversion, Intrikat, Baco, and others from the 1990s to present day. I hope you enjoy the story and the many perspectives on this thing we all love, called flatland!”
